Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

VDO Dayton PN2050 / PN1000 / MA3060 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HYB8030450L1401S1MPX)
This 3.7V, 1400mAh lithium-ion cell replaces the original battery in the VDO Dayton PN2050, PN1000, and MA3060 portable GPS navigators. It matches the OEM part number HYB8030450L1401S1MPX and fits the same physical envelope at 52.55 × 34.31 × 8.04mm. Capacity is 1400mAh (5.18Wh), sourced to the original specification.
- PN2050, PN1000, and MA3060 compatibility: All three models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V single-cell Li-ion architecture. No modification is needed — the cell slots directly into any of the three units with the same BMS handshake behaviour.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a PN2050 unit. The BMS accepted the charge cycle without fault flags, held the voltage curve through active GPS navigation, and triggered the low-battery warning at the correct threshold before cutoff.
- Cold-start preparation after fitting: After installing this cell, power the unit on outdoors with a clear sky view and let it complete a full satellite acquisition before driving. A GPS unit that has had full power removed performs a cold start — first fix can take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent starts after that session will lock in under a minute.
Saved routes and POIs disappearing after battery swap
The PN2050 and its siblings store some navigation data — including recent destinations and certain POI lists — in battery-backed volatile RAM. When the battery is fully removed, that RAM loses power and the data is wiped. This is not a fault with the replacement cell; it is a consequence of complete power interruption. Before pulling the old battery, export any saved routes to the device's internal flash or an SD card via the navigation software. Restore them after the new cell is fitted and the unit has booted cleanly.
Unit shuts off without a low-battery warning
After a battery replacement, the fuel gauge IC on the PN2050 is not calibrated to the new cell — it still references the discharge curve of the degraded original. The on-screen battery indicator may show two bars when the actual cell voltage has already dropped to the hardware cutoff threshold, around 3.2V. The device then cuts power with no visible warning because the indicator never reached the programmed low-battery alert level. Run two full charge-and-discharge cycles in active navigation mode to let the gauge recalibrate against the new cell's actual discharge curve.

Frequently Asked Questions
My VDO Dayton PN2050 is taking ages to find satellites after I swapped the battery — is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery wipes the GPS receiver's almanac and ephemeris data, which it uses to predict where satellites are. Without that data it has to scan the full sky from scratch — a cold start that typically takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear view. Go outside, power the unit on, and leave it stationary until it locks. Every start after that will be fast again.
All my saved destinations vanished when I replaced the battery on my PN2050 — can I get them back?
Some destination history on the PN2050 is held in battery-backed RAM, not in flash storage. Full power removal clears that RAM, and the data is gone. If the device supports SD card export via its navigation software, saved routes stored there will still be intact — check the SD card first. Going forward, export routes to the SD card before any battery work.
My PN2050 is draining much faster during active navigation than it did on standby — is the new battery faulty?
It is not faulty. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously and keeps the display on, often at high brightness — that combination draws significantly more current than standby. The original battery had the same behaviour but the degraded capacity made standby drain more noticeable too. Reduce screen brightness to the lowest usable level and, if the unit has a screen timeout setting, enable it between glances to extend use on a single charge.
