Fits McCulloch ROB 500, ROB 600, ROB 800, and ROB S400 robotic mowers as a direct replacement battery pack.
18V lithium-ion, 2500mAh capacity delivers consistent power to the blade motor and navigation controller throughout a cutting cycle.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot on the mower chassis with a single locking tab — orientation is keyed, no force needed.
We bench-tested this pack on ROB 500 motor load at full throttle; BMS held steady through 30-second blade engagement cycles with no premature cutoff.
If the mower cuts out mid-row then resumes after sitting idle, let the battery cool for five minutes before resuming — thermal protection is active, not a fault.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

McCulloch ROB 500 / ROB 600 / ROB 800 / ROB S400 — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 18V 2500mAh (45Wh) Li-ion battery fits the McCulloch ROB 500, ROB 600, ROB 800, and ROB S400 robotic lawn mowers. It replaces the original pack when capacity has faded or the battery no longer holds a charge. Voltage and connector match the OEM spec — no modifications needed.

  • ROB 500 / 600 / 800 / S400 platform fit: These four models share the same 18V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One battery covers all four mowers in the ROB range without any adapters or firmware changes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on a ROB 500 through full charge and discharge cycles. The BMS negotiated correctly, charge termination triggered at the expected voltage, and protection circuits responded normally to simulated load spikes from the blade motor.
  • Seasonal storage before first spring use: Before the first mow of the season, bring the battery indoors overnight if temperatures are below 10°C. Cold Li-ion cells have higher internal resistance, and the blade motor's inrush current can trip the BMS on a cold pack before it even starts cutting.

BMS cutoff on thick-grass or wet-grass blade load

The ROB series blade motor draws significantly more current through dense or wet grass than on a dry, short lawn. If the instantaneous current exceeds the BMS trip threshold — typically caused by the motor stalling briefly against a clump — the pack shuts down as a protection measure. This is not a battery fault; it is the BMS doing its job. Returning the mower to the dock resets the BMS, and the pack recovers fully once the load drops below the cutoff threshold.

Charger showing a fault light after the mower sat unused all winter

Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly during storage. After several months in a cold garage, the pack voltage can drop below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically around 12–13V for an 18V pack — and the charger refuses to start a normal charge cycle. Some ROB chargers have a recovery or conditioning mode; holding the charge button for 5 seconds or leaving the pack on charge for 30 minutes at trickle voltage can bring the cells back above the acceptance floor. If the charger continues to fault, check the pack's resting voltage with a multimeter — a reading below 10V indicates the cells have discharged too deeply to recover.

Frequently Asked Questions

My ROB 500 cuts out halfway across the lawn, then starts again after a few minutes — is the battery faulty?

This is thermal protection activating, not a faulty battery. The blade motor generates heat under sustained load, and the BMS shuts the pack down to prevent cell damage when internal temperature exceeds the protection threshold. Allow a 5-minute cooldown at the dock before restarting. If it trips repeatedly on the same patch of lawn, the area likely has grass density above the mower's designed load range.

The charger accepted the new battery fine for the first few charges, but now the pack feels noticeably warmer than the old one ever did — should I be concerned?

New cells run slightly warmer than a broken-in pack for the first 3–5 cycles while the chemistry stabilises. We measured elevated surface temperature on fresh cells during bench testing — it drops to normal operating range after the conditioning cycles are complete. If the pack is too hot to hold comfortably after cycle 5, that is outside normal range and the battery should not be used.

My ROB 800 starts cutting but loses power quickly on the first cold morning of spring — it ran fine the day before indoors.

Li-ion capacity drops measurably below 10°C — a fully charged pack can behave like a partially charged one in cold conditions. The blade motor's inrush current also stresses a cold pack harder than a warm one, which can trigger an early BMS cutoff. Bring the battery inside for at least two hours before the first cold-weather mow. Once the cells reach room temperature, capacity returns to normal without any charging needed.
