  • YP-K5 and YP-K5J compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V power rail. The cell is a flat lithium-polymer pouch — not a cylindrical cell — so the physical fit and BMS voltage thresholds are identical across both variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a YP-K5 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without flagging a fault, and the device registered a full charge state at 4.2V. No protection-circuit tripping occurred during normal playback draw.
  • Post-swap charging on the YP-K5: After fitting this cell, connect the player to a charger before attempting to power it on. If the replacement cell has sat in storage, its resting voltage may be low enough that the YP-K5 enters deep-discharge protection and refuses to boot. Battery percentage jumping on the YP-K5 after a cell swap

The audio amplifier in the YP-K5 draws a brief current spike when driving headphone output at higher volumes. Near the end of discharge — typically below 3.5V — the cell can no longer sustain that spike without voltage sagging below the BMS cutoff threshold. The device shuts off even though the indicator still shows one bar. This is a cell-voltage floor issue, not a firmware fault. Keeping playback volume below 80% extends usable discharge depth on an aging or newly fitted cell.

Almost certainly not dead — it's in deep-discharge protection. Lithium-polymer cells that drop below roughly 2.5V trigger a protection circuit that blocks power delivery until the cell recovers. Connect the YP-K5 to its charger and leave it for 30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charger feeds a trickle current that brings the cell back above the recovery threshold, after which the player will boot normally.

The battery percentage on my YP-K5 keeps jumping around erratically after I replaced the battery — what's causing it?

The YP-K5 estimates charge level by reading cell voltage against fixed reference points calibrated to the original cell's wear curve. A new cell has a different voltage-discharge profile, so the readings look unstable at first. Run the player down until it shuts itself off, then charge it fully to 4.2V in one uninterrupted session. That single full cycle re-anchors the thresholds and the indicator will read consistently from then on.

My YP-K5 cuts out during playback but still shows battery remaining — why does this keep happening?

The headphone amplifier pulls a short current spike at higher volume levels. When the cell voltage is near its floor — below about 3.5V — that spike causes a momentary sag that trips the BMS cutoff, shutting the device down even though the indicator still shows charge. Reduce playback volume to below 80% to lower the amplifier's peak draw. If the problem starts happening earlier in the charge cycle than it used to, the cell has degraded and this replacement at 600mAh will restore the original discharge depth.
