Fits Hellige EKG Cardio Smart and ES500 models with OEM battery slot.
18V 2000mAh Ni-MH pack delivers sustained power for extended cardiac monitoring sessions.
Connector type matches original slot; rectangular form factor seats flush without modification.
Bench testing confirmed steady discharge curve under clinical load profile with stable voltage hold.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption — medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hellige EKG Cardio Smart / ES500 — 18V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 18V 2000mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original power cell in the Hellige EKG Cardio Smart and ES500 portable electrocardiographs. These are compact clinical ECG units used in hospital wards and mobile cardiac monitoring. Voltage and capacity match the original at 18V and 2000mAh (36Wh).

  • EKG Cardio Smart and ES500 compatibility: Both models share the same 18V battery rail, physical form factor, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell fits both units without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench, monitoring the BMS communication at each stage. The protection circuit responded correctly at both ends of the charge curve, with no false cutoff events during the test sequence.
  • Post-swap power-on self-test: After installing this battery, allow the Cardio Smart to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification at startup — cutting power during this sequence triggers a persistent battery fault that won't clear until the next clean reboot cycle.

Why the Cardio Smart charges to full but still alarms low battery

The Cardio Smart's charge IC applies a conservative threshold on new Ni-MH cells. On the first charge, the BMS may not accept the cell's state-of-charge report as valid because the internal resistance profile of a new cell doesn't match the learned baseline. This causes the device to flag a low battery condition even after a confirmed full charge. One complete charge-discharge cycle resets the learned baseline, and the alarm clears on the second charge.

Device won't power on after battery sat in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge in storage, and if the voltage drops far enough, the BMS enters a recovery lockout — it won't pass current to the device until the cell voltage climbs above the minimum recovery threshold. Place the battery on charge immediately and leave it connected for a full charge cycle without interrupting. If the charger doesn't initiate, the cell may need a brief trickle charge first — check that the charger shows any activity indicator within 10 minutes of connection. A cell that recovers will hold charge normally from that point forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Cardio Smart shows a low battery alarm the moment I install a fully charged new battery — is something wrong with the cell?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. The device BMS sets its low-battery threshold against a learned internal resistance profile, and a brand-new Ni-MH cell reads differently from an aged OEM cell — so the alarm fires even when charge is full. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle on the new battery inside the device. After that cycle, the BMS updates its baseline and the alarm stops triggering.

The Cardio Smart won't finish booting after I swapped the battery — it cuts off mid-startup.

The device runs a BMS verification routine during the power-on self-test sequence. If power is interrupted at any point during that sequence — even briefly — the unit logs a battery fault and halts the boot. Power the device off completely, leave it off for 30 seconds, then restart and do not touch it until the self-test finishes. If the fault persists, confirm the battery is above 18V before attempting another boot.

The Cardio Smart shuts off unexpectedly during a recording — it has a new battery and was fully charged.

New Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance in the first 10 cycles, and the ECG unit's active recording load draws enough current to cause a brief voltage sag below the BMS cutoff threshold — even from a full charge. The cell is not faulty; it needs conditioning. Complete five to ten full charge-discharge cycles before relying on the battery for uninterrupted clinical recordings, and verify resting voltage reads at least 18V before each session.
