Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

IMEX Versalab Vascular Doppler — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BT0029)
This 7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the OEM pack in the IMEX Versalab Vascular Doppler and compatible units including the Summit Doppler, Nicolet Vascular, and Viasys platforms. It matches the original voltage rail and connector profile so no hardware modification is needed. Capacity is rated at 14.4Wh, matching the OEM specification for these portable clinical Doppler units.
- Cross-platform fit — Versalab, Summit, Nicolet, Viasys: These vascular Doppler units share a common 7.2V battery architecture and the same BMS handshake protocol. OEM part numbers BT0029, BAT0004, BT-U029, B11616, and 6196 all refer to the same physical pack — this battery covers all of them.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through a full charge-discharge sequence on a Versalab-class unit and monitored the BMS response at startup. The protection circuit engaged correctly at low-voltage cutoff and the charge IC accepted a full charge without flagging a fault on the second cycle.
- Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, let the device complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The Versalab BMS runs a chemistry verification step at boot. Cutting power during that sequence writes a false fault flag that persists until the next clean reboot.
Low battery alarm triggering immediately after a confirmed full charge
The Versalab's BMS uses stored discharge curves calibrated to the OEM cell's internal resistance profile. A new replacement cell has a slightly different impedance signature on the first few cycles, which the BMS interprets as a depleted pack even when state-of-charge is high. This is not a fault with the battery. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle without interrupting the device mid-use, and the BMS recalibrates its threshold against the new cell's actual curve. After that cycle, the alarm threshold tracks correctly.
Device will not power on after battery was stored before installation
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day in storage. If this battery sat in a warehouse or drawer for several months before installation, its resting voltage may have dropped below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 6.0V for a 7.2V Ni-MH pack. The protection circuit blocks output to prevent damage, so the device shows no response at power-on. Place the battery on charge for a minimum of 30 minutes before attempting to boot the device; most charge ICs on this platform apply a trickle recovery current that brings the cell above the 6.0V floor before switching to full charge rate.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Versalab shows a low battery alarm straight after I charged this replacement — is the battery faulty?
It is not faulty. The device BMS compares the new cell's impedance against a curve stored from the original OEM pack, and the mismatch triggers a false alarm on the first one or two cycles. Run one full charge followed by a complete discharge under normal clinical use, then recharge fully. After that cycle the BMS recalibrates and the alarm clears.
My Versalab Doppler powers on but shuts off unexpectedly during a patient scan — what's causing it?
New Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance in the first 5–10 cycles before the chemistry stabilises. Under the continuous load of active Doppler scanning, that resistance causes a voltage sag that crosses the BMS low-voltage cutoff threshold and trips a protective shutdown. The fix is to run three to five full charge-discharge cycles before clinical use — internal resistance drops significantly with each cycle, and the voltage sag under load reduces below the cutoff point.
The charge indicator on the Versalab never reaches 100% on the first charge of this new battery — is the charger seeing it correctly?
The device charge IC applies a conservative current limit and a lower termination threshold when it detects a high-impedance cell — which is normal for a fresh Ni-MH pack. It is not a charger fault and it is not a battery fault. Allow the first charge to complete fully without removing the battery early, even if the indicator stalls below 100%. By the second full charge cycle the IC will read the cell's delta-V termination signal correctly and the indicator will reach full charge as expected.
