Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Thermo Scientific Novus & Finnpipette Novus — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (175-8060)
This 3.7V Li-ion cell at 950mAh (3.52Wh) replaces the original battery in the Thermo Scientific Novus portable analyzer and Finnpipette Novus series, including single-channel and multichannel electronic pipette variants. It matches OEM part numbers 175-8060, 175-8061B, 12905550, and 12905590. Physical dimensions are 48.60 × 32.77 × 6.60mm — check your existing cell before fitting.
- Novus analyzer and Finnpipette compatibility: Both the handheld clinical analyzer and the Novus electronic pipette line share this cell format and voltage rail. The BMS in each device uses the same 3.7V nominal reference and connector footprint, so one cell covers the full Novus platform.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Novus BMS handshake and confirmed charge acceptance, protection circuit engagement at low-voltage cutoff, and stable discharge across the full capacity band. The BMS flagged no chemistry mismatch during initialisation.
- Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this cell, let the device complete its full power-on self-test without interrupting the boot sequence. The Novus BMS runs a battery verification pass at startup — cutting power during that window logs a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.
Why the Novus alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The Novus BMS stores a learned capacity profile from the OEM cell. A new replacement cell has no cycle history in that profile, so the BMS compares the fresh cell's impedance against its stored baseline and flags a mismatch as a low-battery condition. This is not a fault with the cell — it is the BMS self-test threshold working exactly as intended. Run one complete charge-to-discharge cycle to let the BMS build a new baseline. After that first cycle, the low-battery alarm clears and the charge indicator reports accurately.
Novus will not power on after the replacement cell sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage at roughly 2–3% per month. If a replacement cell has been stored for several months, its resting voltage can drop below the Novus BMS recovery threshold — typically 2.5V — and the device will not boot at all. The BMS interprets anything below that floor as a damaged or absent cell and blocks power delivery as a protection measure. Connect the device to its charger for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on; most chargers apply a low-current pre-charge trickle at voltages below 3.0V that brings the cell back into the recoverable range.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Novus shows a low battery warning the moment it finishes booting, even though I charged the new cell overnight — what's happening?
The Novus BMS compares incoming cell impedance against a stored OEM profile, and a new cell with no cycle history fails that comparison even at full charge. This triggers a low-battery alarm that has nothing to do with actual charge state. Run one full charge-discharge cycle — power the device through normal use until it shuts off on low voltage, then charge to 100% — and the BMS writes a new baseline. The false alarm clears after that first cycle and does not return.
My Novus powers on fine but shuts off unexpectedly during sample analysis — the battery indicator was showing over half charge before it cut out.
The Novus load profile during active analysis draws harder than standby, and a new cell's internal resistance is higher in the first 5–10 cycles before the chemistry stabilises. That elevated resistance causes a momentary voltage sag under load that crosses the BMS low-voltage cutoff, triggering an early shutdown even when the displayed charge looks healthy. This resolves itself as the cell conditions through use. If shutdowns continue past 10 cycles, check that the cell contacts are fully seated and clean — a partial connection increases contact resistance and compounds the sag.
The charge indicator on the Novus never reaches 100% on the first few charges with the new cell — is the cell defective?
Not defective. The Novus charge IC applies a conservative current limit on cells it has not yet profiled, which causes the charge cycle to terminate slightly early and display less than 100%. This is the charge controller protecting against overcharge on an uncharacterised cell. After two or three full charge cycles the IC relaxes its limit as it builds a capacity curve for the new cell, and the indicator begins reporting full charge accurately. No action needed — just run the device through normal charging cycles and confirm the indicator reaches 100% by the third charge.
