Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sierra Wireless Overdrive 4G Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (W-1 / BATW801)
This 3.7V 1800mAh Li-ion battery fits the Sierra Wireless Overdrive 4G and Overdrive 4G+ mobile hotspot devices, along with the Aircard 753S and compatible variants. It replaces OEM part numbers W-1, 1201883, and BATW801. The Overdrive creates a shared 4G LTE connection for multiple Wi-Fi clients — the battery carries the combined load of the cellular modem and the Wi-Fi radio simultaneously.
- Overdrive 4G and 4G+ compatibility: Both devices run on the same 3.7V single-cell Li-ion platform with the same connector and BMS handshake. The W-1 part number spans both models, so one replacement covers the full Overdrive family in this series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery under combined modem and Wi-Fi radio load, simulating multiple connected clients. The BMS held voltage stable across the draw cycle and did not trigger a low-voltage cutoff under normal operating conditions.
- Signal environment tip: In poor cellular coverage areas, the modem ramps to full transmit power. Position the Overdrive near a window or elevated surface to improve signal — this reduces transmit power demand and lowers thermal stress on the battery during long sessions.
Why the Overdrive 4G drops all connected clients mid-session on a new battery
When multiple clients are active at maximum range, the Wi-Fi radio and cellular modem both pull peak current at the same time. This combined spike can sag battery voltage below the BMS protection threshold momentarily, triggering a shutdown even when the battery shows adequate charge. The Overdrive's BMS is conservative — it cuts output quickly to protect the cell. If drop-outs happen at five or more connected clients, reduce the client count or move the hotspot closer to the router or tower to lower simultaneous peak draw.
Overdrive 4G won't power on after sitting unused for several weeks
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the Overdrive sat for more than three to four weeks without charging, the cell voltage may have fallen below 3.0V — the minimum threshold the BMS requires to allow boot. At that point, the device shows no response to the power button. Connect it to the OEM charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on; the BMS needs to detect a recovery charge above 3.0V before it re-enables the output rail.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Overdrive 4G keeps disconnecting everyone on it even though the battery is new — what's causing that?
The Overdrive runs its cellular modem and Wi-Fi radio at the same time, and peak combined current draw can momentarily sag voltage low enough for the BMS to trigger a protective shutdown. This happens most often when five or more clients are connected or when cellular signal is weak and the modem is at full transmit power. It's not a faulty battery — it's a current-spike event. Limit active connected clients to three or four, or move the hotspot to a location with stronger signal to reduce modem output power.
The battery on my Overdrive 4G drains much faster than it used to — even with the same number of devices connected
Cellular signal strength is the biggest variable. When the Overdrive operates in a weak-signal area, the modem runs at maximum transmit power continuously — this can double the current draw compared to a strong-signal environment. Check the signal bar count on the Overdrive's display; if it shows one or two bars, repositioning near a window or to a higher floor will cut radio power demand significantly and extend charge between top-ups.
My Overdrive 4G shows a charging indicator but won't turn on after I replaced the battery — what's the reset step?
If the replacement cell arrived partially discharged or sat in a warehouse for an extended period, its voltage may be below 3.0V and the BMS will block the output rail even while accepting a charge. Leave it connected to the charger for a full 45 to 60 minutes before pressing the power button — the BMS needs to see the cell recover above the minimum boot threshold before it re-enables the output. If the device still won't power on after 60 minutes on charge, verify the charger is delivering the correct 5V output with a USB voltage meter.
