Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Virgin Mobile Overdrive Pro 3G / 4G — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This is a 3.7V 1800mAh Li-ion battery for the Virgin Mobile Overdrive Pro 3G and Overdrive Pro 4G mobile hotspot devices. It slots into the rear battery bay and powers the onboard cellular modem and Wi-Fi radio simultaneously. Replace it when the original no longer holds enough charge to sustain a full session.
- Overdrive Pro 3G and 4G compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions and 3.7V supply rail. The connector pinout and physical footprint are identical across the two generations, so one battery covers both units.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge and discharge cycles on the Overdrive Pro platform. The BMS maintained stable voltage under combined modem and Wi-Fi load and tripped the low-voltage cutoff cleanly before the cell reached damaging depth.
- Ventilation during extended hotspot sessions: Keep the device flat on an open surface — not in a bag or pocket — during long sessions. When connected devices are far from the hotspot, the cellular radio boosts to maximum transmit power, which generates heat that accelerates cell degradation over time.
Why the Overdrive Pro drops connected devices mid-session on a new battery
When the hotspot is at full client capacity, the Wi-Fi radio and cellular modem draw current simultaneously. If the battery cell has uneven internal resistance — common in cells that have been over-discharged — voltage sags briefly under that combined load. The device's protection circuit interprets the sag as a low-battery event and resets the radio stack, disconnecting all clients. A fully charged, healthy cell sustains the load without triggering that cutoff. If drop-outs persist after a full charge, check that the battery terminals are seated cleanly in the bay contacts.
Overdrive Pro won't power on after sitting in a drawer for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per month in storage. Left long enough, the cell drops below the minimum boot voltage — typically around 3.0V — and the device's BMS blocks startup to prevent damage. The hotspot shows no response when the power button is pressed. Connect it to the OEM charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on; this allows the BMS to trickle-charge the cell back above the activation threshold. If the device still won't respond after a full charge cycle, check the charger output — it should read 5V DC at the port.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Overdrive Pro keeps kicking all connected devices off Wi-Fi every 20–30 minutes — is the battery causing this?
Yes, this is a voltage-sag dropout. Under maximum client load, the modem and Wi-Fi radio pull current together, and a weakened cell can't hold voltage steady — the protection circuit reads it as a fault and resets the radio stack. A fresh, fully charged battery eliminates the sag that triggers the reset. Charge the new battery to 100% before your next session and confirm the terminal contacts in the bay are clean and fully seated.
The battery drains far faster when I'm in an area with weak signal — why?
In poor signal conditions, the cellular radio continuously boosts transmit power trying to maintain a connection, which is the single largest current draw on the hotspot. Add multiple connected devices on top of that and total draw can nearly double compared to strong-signal use. This isn't a battery fault — it's the device working at maximum radio output. Move closer to a window or elevated position to improve signal strength; that alone reduces transmit power and noticeably extends charge life.
The Overdrive Pro feels warm to the touch during a long session — is that stressing the new battery?
Heat is the primary driver of Li-ion capacity loss over time. The hotspot generates the most heat when the cellular modem is at full transmit power and the battery is simultaneously under charge or heavy discharge. Keep the device on a hard, flat, open surface during extended sessions — not resting on fabric or enclosed in a case. If surface temperature feels hot rather than warm, reduce the number of connected clients or move the device to a stronger signal area to drop the radio's transmit power.
