Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Archos 55 Helium Ultra / A55 Helium — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (AC55HE)
This 3.7V, 2500mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original AC55HE battery in the Archos 55 Helium Ultra and A55 Helium smartphones. It targets devices that shut down unexpectedly, refuse to hold charge, or no longer power on after prolonged storage. Dimensions are 88.26 × 63.78 × 3.40mm — verify clearance before fitting.
- 55 Helium and A55 Helium compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol, making a single cell suitable for either variant. Voltage rail and thermistor line are identical across the two.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Archos 55 Helium platform. The BMS accepted the cell without rejection flags, thermistor reporting stayed within spec, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-to-charge cycle. This gives the fuel gauge IC time to map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging begins on an uncalibrated cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Archos 55 Helium after a cell swap
This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still running the discharge curve from the old, degraded cell. The new cell has a steeper voltage cliff under modem and screen load than the old curve predicts. When the phone draws current for LTE or display wake, the cell voltage drops below the shutdown threshold before the gauge reads zero. One complete discharge cycle — draining to automatic shutdown, then charging uninterrupted to 100% — lets the coulomb counter reset against the real cell chemistry.
Phone reports erratic or jumping battery percentage after replacement
The fuel gauge IC on the Archos 55 Helium uses a learned model of the original cell's internal resistance and capacity. A new cell with different impedance throws that model off, causing percentage to jump — sometimes by 10–15 points — between readings. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Force the IC to relearn by discharging the phone fully until it powers off automatically, then charging straight to 100% without interruption. After one complete cycle, percentage reporting stabilises.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Archos 55 Helium won't power on at all after sitting unused for months — is the new battery dead on arrival?
Almost certainly not. When a Li-Polymer cell drops below roughly 2.5V during long storage, the BMS locks out to prevent damage, and the phone shows no response — no boot screen, no charge indicator. Plug the phone into a wall charger (not a PC USB port) and leave it for at least 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on. The charge IC needs to push a trickle current through the BMS lockout before normal charging resumes. If the charge LED appears after that window, the cell is recovering normally.
Fast charging stopped working after I fitted the replacement cell — the phone only slow-charges now.
This is normal on the first cycle after a cell swap. The USB charge controller on the 55 Helium negotiates fast-charge current based on BMS feedback, and a new cell often presents higher impedance on cycle one, causing the IC to fall back to standard 5V/1A charging as a precaution. Run one full standard charge to 100%, then drain the phone normally. On the second charge cycle, fast charging typically re-engages once the BMS has logged a baseline impedance reading for the new cell.
The Archos 55 Helium feels warm near the back panel while charging with the new battery — is that a problem?
Some warmth is expected during the first few charge cycles on a new Li-Polymer cell. A fresh cell has higher internal impedance than a conditioned one, so the charge IC dissipates slightly more energy as heat while pushing current in. If the back panel is uncomfortably hot to hold, remove the case if one is fitted to improve airflow, and switch to a charger that outputs no more than 5V/2A for the first two cycles. Warmth should reduce noticeably once the cell has completed two or three full charge-discharge cycles and impedance settles.
