Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Leagoo Lead 3 / Lead 3S — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BT-450)
This is a 3.8V, 1400mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Leagoo Lead 3 and Lead 3S smartphones. It uses OEM part number BT-450 and slots directly into either handset. Capacity is 1400mAh (5.32Wh), matching the original cell specification.
- Lead 3 and Lead 3S compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — that is why a single BT-450 cell covers both. Voltage rail is 3.8V nominal on each board.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the BT-450 through a full charge-discharge cycle on a Lead 3 unit. The charge IC accepted the cell without fault, the BMS reported no protection events, and voltage held stable under screen-on and modem load.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This gives the Lead 3's fuel gauge IC a clean reference curve for the new cell — skipping this step causes erratic percentage readings in the first few days.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Leagoo Lead 3
This is one of the most common complaints after a cell swap on the Lead 3. The fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the discharge curve of the old, degraded cell — it does not match the new cell's voltage slope. When the modem transmits or the screen brightness peaks, current draw spikes and cell voltage drops momentarily below the BMS cutoff threshold, even though the reported percentage says 25%. The fix is a single uninterrupted full discharge-to-shutdown followed by a full charge. After that cycle, the coulomb counter resets against the actual cell curve and premature shutdowns stop.
Phone shows 100% but drops to 80% within minutes of unplugging
This happens because the fuel gauge IC logged the old cell's internal resistance as its baseline. A new cell has lower impedance, so the charge IC terminates early and the gauge overshoots to 100% before the cell is truly full. Once the device sits off-charge for a few minutes, open-circuit voltage settles and the gauge corrects downward sharply. Run one full discharge cycle to let the IC re-anchor its endpoint voltage — after recalibration, the reported percentage will track the actual state of charge accurately from approximately 4.2V full down to the 3.4V cutoff.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Leagoo Lead 3 won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?
It is not dead — the BT-450 cell has likely dropped below 2.5V in storage, which triggers BMS lockout to prevent cell damage. Plug into a wall charger (not a PC USB port) and leave it for 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on. Most BMS controllers on this battery will accept a trickle from the charge IC and exit lockout once cell voltage climbs back above 2.8V. If the charging LED does not appear within 40 minutes, check the charger output is at least 5V 1A.
Fast charging stopped working after I fitted the new BT-450 — the phone charges slowly even on a fast charger.
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the Lead 3's charge IC often defaults to standard 1C charging because it has no impedance history for the new cell. This is normal behaviour — the IC runs a conservative first cycle to profile the cell before allowing higher current. Complete one full charge at the slower rate, unplug, and reconnect to the fast charger. The charge IC will read the cell's internal resistance on the second cycle and re-enable the higher current profile.
The battery percentage on my Lead 3 keeps jumping — for example, it reads 45%, I open an app and it drops to 31% instantly.
The coulomb counter inside the phone is still using the discharge model it built for the old, worn cell. A fresh 1400mAh cell has a steeper voltage-to-capacity curve than the depleted cell it replaced, so the IC misreads voltage steps as large capacity drops. Discharge the phone completely until it shuts itself off, then charge to 100% without interruption. That single full cycle forces the fuel gauge to rebuild its reference table against the actual BT-450 discharge curve, and the erratic jumps will stop.
