Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MetroPCS SCH-R270 / Chrono 2 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AB463446BA)
This 3.7V, 800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original AB463446BA battery in the Samsung SCH-R270, SCH-R270U, and Chrono 2 flip phones on the MetroPCS network. It fits the compact battery bay on these clamshell handsets and restores power to devices where the original cell no longer holds a usable charge. Dimensions are 49.50 × 33.80 × 4.70mm — verify these against your existing battery before ordering.
- SCH-R270, SCH-R270U, and Chrono 2 fit: All three models share the same 3.7V battery bay geometry and connector pinout, which is why they use an identical cell. The BMS handshake on this platform is passive — no authentication chip — so the replacement cell seats and communicates without firmware rejection.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the SCH-R270 platform. The charge IC accepted the new cell without error flags, and the BMS held stable voltage across both standby and active call states.
- Fuel gauge recalibration after install: On first use, run the phone down to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption. The SCH-R270's fuel gauge IC calibrates its coulomb counter against that first full cycle — skipping it causes the percentage display to lag or jump for the first several days of use.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the SCH-R270 after a cell swap
This is a voltage-cliff problem, not a capacity problem. The fuel gauge IC on the SCH-R270 was calibrated to the discharge curve of the original aged cell — which sagged slowly and predictably. A fresh 800mAh cell has a steeper voltage drop in the final 20–25% of its charge window. When the phone's modem fires a transmit burst, it pulls current that drops cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold — around 3.0V — even though the gauge still reads 20–30%. One complete discharge-to-shutoff cycle lets the coulomb counter remap to the new cell's actual curve and eliminates most premature shutoffs.
Phone feels warm near the battery door during the first few charges
A new lithium cell has higher internal impedance than a cell that has been cycled several times. The SCH-R270's charge IC pushes a fixed current regardless of cell impedance, so the first one or two charges generate more heat as the cell's internal resistance dissipates some of that energy. This is normal and decreases after three to four full cycles as impedance drops. If the phone is still noticeably warm after five full cycles, check that the battery contacts on the phone are clean and making firm contact — corroded contacts increase resistance and amplify heating.

Frequently Asked Questions
My SCH-R270 shuts off at around 25% battery after I put in the new cell — is the replacement defective?
The cell is not defective. The phone's fuel gauge IC is still using the discharge curve from the old, degraded battery. A fresh 800mAh cell drops voltage faster in the final quarter of charge, and the modem's transmit current pulls the cell below the 3.0V BMS cutoff before the gauge reaches 0%. Run the phone down to automatic shutoff, then charge it to 100% in one uninterrupted session — that full cycle resets the coulomb counter to the new cell's actual curve.
The battery percentage jumps around erratically — shows 60%, then 45%, then back to 55% within minutes.
The SCH-R270's fuel gauge IC lost its reference point when the old cell was removed. Without a calibrated baseline, the coulomb counter estimates state-of-charge from voltage alone, which fluctuates under load and produces erratic readouts. Perform one full discharge to automatic shutoff followed by a complete uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that single cycle, the IC recalibrates and percentage display stabilises.
The phone won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months before installation.
If the cell discharged below roughly 2.5V during storage, the BMS has entered a lockout state to prevent damage to the cell. Connect the phone to its charger and leave it for at least 30–45 minutes without attempting to power it on — the charge IC trickle-charges the cell at a low current until it clears the lockout threshold. Once voltage climbs above 3.0V, the BMS releases and the phone will boot normally.
