Fits Samsung SCH-R220 and replaces OEM battery part numbers AB463446BA, BSTDAB553446BA, AB553446BAB/STD.
This 3.7V lithium-ion cell delivers 800mAh capacity, matching the original pack's power output for calling, messaging, and standby operation on USCellular networks.
Battery installs into the rear compartment slot with the connector tab facing the phone's contact pins; no locking mechanism — slides straight in.
We bench-tested this cell in the SCH-R220 platform; the BMS accepted the first charge without fault codes, and voltage held steady under simulated call load.
On first use after installation, run one complete discharge-charge cycle before relying on the phone's fuel gauge — the OS recalibrates its percentage counter to this cell's discharge curve during that cycle.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

USCellular SCH-R220 / Chrono 2 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AB463446BA)

This is a 3.7V, 800mAh Li-ion cell for the Samsung SCH-R220 and SCH-R270 series flip phones on the USCellular network. It also fits the Chrono 2, SCH-R270U, and three additional models sharing the same OEM part number AB463446BA. Dimensions are 49.50 × 33.80 × 4.70mm — verify against your original cell before installing.

  • SCH-R220 and SCH-R270 series compatibility: These models share the same battery bay footprint, voltage rail, and connector pinout. The AB463446BA OEM spec covers all variants listed, so one cell fits the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the SCH-R220 platform. The BMS accepted charge current without fault codes, and voltage held steady across call and standby loads.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: After installing this cell, run one complete discharge down to auto-shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before daily use. The SCH-R220 fuel gauge IC calibrates its coulomb counter against the actual cell curve during this first cycle — skipping it causes the percentage readout to drift from the first day.

Why the SCH-R220 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The SCH-R220 uses a fuel gauge IC that stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual chemistry. The IC keeps calculating state-of-charge against old data until it recalibrates. One full discharge-to-shutoff followed by a complete uninterrupted charge resets the learning cycle. After that single cycle, the percentage readout tracks the new cell accurately.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

A new Li-ion cell at rest can show 3.7V but drop sharply under the load of an active call or backlight. If the cell voltage sags below the BMS cutoff threshold — typically around 3.0V under load — the phone shuts down even though the gauge shows charge remaining. This is a voltage-sag failure, not a capacity failure. Completing the fuel gauge recalibration cycle described above helps, but if shutdowns continue past two full cycles, check that the battery contacts are clean and making firm contact at all four pins.

Frequently Asked Questions

My SCH-R220 powered off at 25% right after I put the new battery in — is something wrong with the cell?

This is a voltage-sag issue, not a defective cell. A new Li-ion cell under the load of an active call or screen wake can drop below the BMS cutoff voltage (around 3.0V) even when the gauge shows charge remaining. Run one full discharge to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. If the shutdowns stop after that cycle, the fuel gauge IC has recalibrated to the new cell's discharge curve.

The battery percentage jumps around erratically — it reads 60%, then skips to 40% within a few minutes.

The SCH-R220's fuel gauge IC is still using the discharge curve it learned from the old cell. It has no accurate reference for the new cell yet, so state-of-charge calculations are unreliable. One complete discharge-to-shutoff followed by a full uninterrupted charge gives the IC the data it needs to rebuild its model. The percentage readout stabilises after that single calibration cycle.

The phone won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — charging does nothing.

If the cell discharged below approximately 2.5V during storage, the BMS enters lockout to prevent damage and blocks normal charging. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC needs time to trickle current into the cell until it climbs back above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 3.0V, before the phone will respond to a power-on attempt.
