Clevo NV40MB / NV40ME Series — 15.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NV40BAT-4-49)

This is a 15.2V, 3050mAh (46.36Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the Clevo NV40MB, NV40ME, NV40MZ, NV40PZ, and related models. It replaces OEM part numbers NV40BAT-4-49 and NV40BAT-4-53. Install it when the original cell no longer holds charge and the notebook cannot run unplugged.

  • NV40 platform fit: The NV40MB, NV40ME, NV40MZ, and NV40PZ share the same 15.2V four-cell architecture and identical connector pinout. The BMS handshake protocol and EEPROM data structure are consistent across these variants, so one cell works across the full NV40 range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on an NV40 platform. The BMS accepted charge correctly, cell voltage held stable under combined CPU and display load, and no protection trips occurred during the test.
  • Post-install calibration on the NV40: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning the firmware throws after every cell swap on this platform.

BIOS reporting battery health as poor after replacing the NV40 cell

The NV40 BIOS reads health data from the EEPROM on the battery's BMS board, not from live voltage measurements. When a new cell is installed, the EEPROM values from the old, degraded cell are still referenced until a learn cycle overwrites them. This causes the firmware to flag poor health even on a brand-new battery. Run one complete discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted full charge — that sequence forces the BIOS to rewrite the battery profile and clear the warning.

Laptop shuts down at 20–30% shown on the NV40 fuel gauge

This happens because the fuel gauge IC maps percentage to voltage using calibration data from the old cell. The new cell has a slightly different discharge curve, so what the gauge calls 25% may already be at the voltage floor under full CPU and display load. The cell cannot sustain output voltage through that load spike, so the protection circuit cuts power before the display gauge reaches zero. Run two full calibration cycles — full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, full charge to 100% — to let the fuel gauge IC relearn the actual voltage-to-capacity curve on the new cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

The NV40 BIOS shows 0% or "unknown" battery immediately after I installed the new cell — is the battery dead?

No. The BIOS is reading stale EEPROM data written by the old degraded cell, not the actual charge state of the new one. Boot into Windows or Linux with the charger connected and let the battery charge to 100% uninterrupted. Then discharge fully to hibernate-cutoff and charge back to 100% — after that cycle the BIOS rewrites the battery profile and the 0% or unknown reading clears.

Windows is showing the new battery as 46Wh but the system info page in the Clevo control panel shows a different Wh figure — which is correct?

The Clevo control panel reads the rated Wh value stored in the battery's EEPROM, which reflects the original OEM cell specification. Windows calculates Wh from live voltage and current readings against the actual cell chemistry. The 46.36Wh figure from the physical cell is accurate. The EEPROM figure is a static value carried over from the original battery profile and does not indicate a fault.

The NV40 stops charging at 80% and won't go higher — is the new battery faulty?

This is almost always a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a battery fault. Clevo's firmware on some NV40 builds ships with a battery conservation mode enabled that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell stress during long plugged-in sessions. Open the Clevo Control Center application, navigate to the battery settings, and disable the charge limit or set the threshold to 100%.
