Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MSI Modern 14 B11 Series — 11.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTY-M493)
This is a 11.4V, 3300mAh (37.62Wh) Li-ion replacement battery carrying OEM part number BTY-M493. It fits the MSI Modern 14 B11 series, including the B11MOU-861IN, B11MOU-862IN, B11MOU-1064XES, and 18 additional B11 variants. Install it when the original cell has degraded, lost capacity, or stopped charging altogether.
- Modern 14 B11 platform fit: All B11 variants in this series share the same BTY-M493 connector pinout, cell voltage rail, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell swap covers the full lineup without any firmware workaround.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a Modern 14 B11 unit and confirmed the BMS initialised on first boot, BIOS recognised the pack without throwing an unknown-device flag, and charge current stepped down correctly through the CC/CV transition.
- Post-install calibration for the B11: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge down to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the BIOS battery learn cycle to reset against the new cell's actual capacity and clears the false poor-health warning that triggers after every cell swap on this platform.
BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after fitting the BTY-M493
The Modern 14 B11 BIOS reads health data from the old cell's EEPROM and caches it. When a new cell goes in, the BIOS still holds that stale data and flags the pack as degraded. This is a firmware-side artefact, not a fault with the new cell. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% triggers the battery learn cycle and rewrites the cached values. After two cycles, the BIOS should report health above 95%.
Laptop shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on the BTY-M493
This happens when the cell voltage drops below the platform's minimum threshold under combined CPU and display load before the fuel gauge reaches zero. The fuel gauge IC was calibrated against the old cell's discharge curve, so its percentage reading is no longer accurate. The new cell hits a voltage cliff at what the gauge still reads as 20–30%. Two full calibration cycles — full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, full charge to 100% — resync the gauge to the new cell. After calibration, shutdowns at false-high percentages should stop; verify by checking cell voltage in HWMonitor stays above 9.8V at the reported 15% mark.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Windows show my new BTY-M493 as 0% or "plugged in, not charging" right after install?
The fuel gauge IC in the Modern 14 B11 is still calibrated to the discharge curve of the old cell, so it can't interpret the new cell's state-of-charge correctly on first boot. Plug in the charger, leave it connected for a full uninterrupted charge to 100%, then let the laptop discharge naturally to hibernate-cutoff. That single full cycle gives the IC enough data to re-anchor its readings. After one complete cycle the percentage should track accurately and the "not charging" flag should clear.
System info shows the BTY-M493 has the wrong Wh rating — it reads higher or lower than 37.62Wh. Is the cell faulty?
The Wh figure shown in Windows Device Manager or battery utilities is pulled from the EEPROM on the cell, which stores the manufacturer's rated capacity under controlled lab conditions. The actual delivered energy at your specific load and temperature will differ from that stored value. This is an EEPROM data difference, not a defect. If the figure displayed is within 10–15% of 37.62Wh, the cell is behaving normally — no action needed.
The BTY-M493 stopped charging at 80% and won't go higher. Is this a faulty cell?
This is almost always the MSI Battery Master or EC firmware charge-limit feature, not a cell fault. MSI ships many Modern 14 B11 units with a BIOS or software-controlled charge ceiling set to 80% to reduce long-term cell stress. Open MSI Center (or MSI Dragon Center on older installs), navigate to the battery section, and switch the charge mode from "Best for Battery" to "Best for Mobility" — this raises the ceiling to 100%.
