Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MSI Modern 15 A10M / A11M Series — 11.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BTY-M491)
This is an 11.4V, 4500mAh (51.3Wh) Li-Polymer replacement battery for the MSI Modern 15 laptop series. It fits the Modern 15 A10M-296IN, A10M-627XES, A11M-277TH, A11MU-469FR, and over 197 additional Modern 15 variants sharing the BTY-M491 specification. Install it when the original cell no longer holds a charge or the laptop stops running unplugged.
- Modern 15 A10M and A11M platform fit: These models share the same 11.4V three-cell Li-Polymer rail, BTY-M491 connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why one part number covers the full A10M and A11M generation without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Modern 15 platform. The BMS handshake completed correctly, the EC recognised the battery as a known part, and the fuel gauge initialised without error flags on the first cycle.
- Post-install calibration on the Modern 15: After fitting this battery, run the laptop on battery power down to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on the Modern 15 platform.
Why the Modern 15 shuts down at 20–30% after a battery swap
The MSI Modern 15 EC uses a fuel gauge IC that builds a discharge curve against the original cell's EEPROM data. When a new cell goes in, the stored curve no longer matches the actual chemistry, so the gauge misjudges the voltage cliff. Under full CPU and display load, the new cell's voltage drops faster than the stale curve predicts, and the EC triggers an emergency shutdown before the displayed percentage reaches zero. Running two full discharge-to-hibernate and uninterrupted-charge cycles forces the fuel gauge IC to recalibrate against the new cell and eliminates the premature cutoff.
BIOS reporting battery health as "poor" or "replace battery" immediately after fitting
The Modern 15 BIOS reads health status from EEPROM data written by the original cell's embedded controller — not from a live measurement of the new cell. Because the replacement cell's EEPROM starts with a fresh cycle count and different baseline values, the BIOS flags a mismatch and reports poor health. This is a data conflict, not a fault with the replacement battery. Complete one full discharge to hibernate cutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100%; the BIOS battery learn cycle will rewrite the health register and the warning will clear. Confirm the health status returns to normal at the next boot after the charge reaches 100%.

Frequently Asked Questions
My MSI Modern 15 fuel gauge is jumping around — showing 60%, then 45%, then back to 55% within minutes. Is the new battery faulty?
The fuel gauge IC on the Modern 15 calibrates its discharge curve against cycle history stored in the cell's EEPROM. A fresh replacement cell has no history, so the gauge is interpolating against a flat baseline and producing erratic readings. This is a calibration gap, not a cell defect. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted charges to 100% and the gauge will stabilise.
The system information panel shows the wrong Wh rating — it says something like 39Wh or 45Wh, but the battery spec is 51.3Wh. Why?
The Wh figure shown in Windows or MSI Dragon Center is pulled from the EEPROM of the original cell, which the EC cached during normal operation. After a swap, the EC may still be reading the old stored value rather than the new cell's rated capacity. Complete one full learn cycle — discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — and the EC will overwrite the cached value with data from the new BTY-M491 cell. Recheck the Wh reading in Settings → System → Battery after the cycle completes.
The replacement battery charges to about 80% and then stops — the charging LED goes off and the OS shows "plugged in, not charging." What is happening?
The MSI Modern 15 BIOS includes a battery charge limit feature, sometimes labelled "Battery Care Mode" or "Best for Battery," which caps charging at 80% to reduce cell wear. This is a BIOS-controlled firmware setting, not a fault with the replacement cell. Open MSI Dragon Center or the BIOS power settings and switch the charge mode from "Best for Battery" to "Best for Mobility" or set a manual threshold above 80%. The battery will then charge to your selected ceiling on the next charge cycle.
