Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony VAIO VGN-U50 / VGN-U70 Series — 11.1V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (VGP-BPS1)
This is an 11.1V 2100mAh lithium-polymer replacement battery for the Sony VAIO U-series ultraportable notebooks. It fits the VGN-U50, VGN-U70, VGN-U8G, and VGN-U8C, among other U-series variants. OEM part numbers VGP-BPS1 and VGP-BPL1 both cross-reference this cell.
- U-series platform compatibility: These models share an identical battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — the same 11.1V Li-Polymer cell services the entire U-series line without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a VGN-U50 and monitored BMS handshake via the SMBus line. Charge acceptance was clean from 0V recovery through to termination, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at both over-voltage and over-temperature thresholds.
- Post-installation discharge cycle: After fitting this battery, run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on U-series hardware.
VAIO VGN-U50 shutting down at 20–30% charge shown
This happens when the fuel gauge IC still holds calibration data from the degraded original cell. The new cell hits a voltage cliff under combined CPU and display load before the gauge catches up. The system interprets the sudden voltage drop as empty and forces shutdown. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate then charge-to-100% cycles — the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell's actual voltage curve and the shutdowns stop.
BIOS reporting battery health as poor or unknown after swap
The VAIO BIOS reads cycle count, rated Wh, and health status from EEPROM data embedded in the battery's BMS. On first installation, the BIOS compares stored EEPROM values against its last logged readings from the old cell — mismatch triggers a "poor" or "unknown" health flag. This is a data comparison artefact, not a fault with the new cell. Complete the full discharge-recharge learn cycle and the BIOS health readout will update to reflect the actual state of the replacement cell.

Frequently Asked Questions
My VGN-U50 shows the new battery at 0% and won't read it at all — what's happening?
The fuel gauge IC on the U-series motherboard is still locked to calibration data from the old cell, so it cannot map the new cell's voltage curve. The BIOS flags this as an unrecognised or 0% state. Discharge the laptop fully to hibernate-cutoff with the new cell installed, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without removing AC power. After one complete cycle the IC resets its reference points and the gauge reads correctly.
System info shows the wrong Wh rating — it says 20Wh but the battery should be 23.31Wh. Is the battery faulty?
The Wh value displayed in Windows or the VAIO BIOS is pulled from the EEPROM on the battery's BMS chip, not measured live. The EEPROM on replacement cells is programmed with rated chemistry values that can differ slightly from the exact capacity of the installed cell. This is a data field difference, not a capacity fault. Actual delivered energy aligns with the 23.31Wh spec once the fuel gauge IC completes two calibration cycles.
New battery charges to 100% on first cycle, then stops at 80% on every charge after — what changed?
Sony's BIOS on U-series hardware includes a charge threshold that activates after the first full cycle is logged. Once the BIOS records a complete charge cycle, it can apply an 80% limit to reduce cell stress during normal use. Check the VAIO Control Center power management settings — the "Battery Care Function" option controls this threshold and can be toggled off to restore full 100% charging.
