Fits Toshiba Satellite A70 series notebooks, replacing OEM part numbers PA3383, PA3383U, PA3383U-1BAS, PA3383U-1BRS, PA3385U-1BAS, PA3385U-1BRS, and PA3388U-1BAS.
This cell delivers 14.8V at 4400mAh capacity, matching the original output for full system stability under CPU and display load on the A70 platform.
The battery slides into the rear slot with a plastic latch connector; seat it fully until the retention tab clicks and the pack sits flush against the case.
We bench-tested the BMS against Toshiba's early-2000s firmware handshake—the cell accepted charge without cutoff errors and sustained voltage during a mixed-load discharge cycle.
After installation, run one complete discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%—this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on this platform.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Toshiba Satellite A70 Series — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PA3383)

This is a 14.8V, 4400mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Toshiba Satellite A70 notebook. It fits the A70-S2362, A70-S249, A70-S2491, and over 60 additional A70 variants. OEM part numbers PA3383, PA3383U-1BAS, PA3383U-1BRS, PA3385U-1BAS, PA3385U-1BRS, and PA3388U-1BAS all cross to this cell.

  • Satellite A70 series compatibility: All A70 variants share the same 14.8V four-cell battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. One replacement covers the full lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge, idle draw, and load cycles on the A70 platform. The BMS handshake completed without error codes, and charge acceptance held steady from 0% to full capacity.
  • Post-install calibration — A70 specific: After fitting this battery, run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. The A70 BIOS uses this cycle to reset its battery learn routine and clear the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

Why the Satellite A70 BIOS flags a new battery as poor health

The A70 BIOS reads battery health from EEPROM data embedded in the cell, not from live voltage measurements. When you swap in a new cell, the EEPROM registers differ from what the BIOS recorded for the old pack, so it throws a health warning immediately. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Running one full calibration cycle — full discharge to hibernate, then a complete uninterrupted charge — rewrites the BIOS battery table and clears the flag.

Satellite A70 shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The IC maps percentage to voltage using data from the previous pack, so it misreads the cutoff point and triggers shutdown early. The fix is two to three full discharge-and-charge cycles, which allow the gauge IC to re-map percentage against the new cell. After calibration, the shutdown threshold aligns with the true cell cutoff at approximately 12.0V under load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Toshiba Satellite A70 shows 0% or "unknown" battery right after I installed the new cell — is it dead?

The A70 BIOS pulls battery state data from the cell's EEPROM, and on a fresh replacement that data doesn't match the old pack's history, so the OS reads 0% or unknown. The cell itself is fine. Boot into Windows, let the battery discharge fully to hibernate, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — one complete cycle resets the BIOS battery learn table and restores normal reporting.

The Satellite A70's battery percentage jumps around wildly — shows 60%, then suddenly 35%, then back up — what's wrong?

The fuel gauge IC on the A70 mainboard calibrates against the specific voltage curve of whatever cell it last learned. A new cell has a slightly different curve, so the IC's percentage-to-voltage map is off until it recalibrates. Run two to three full discharge-to-hibernate then full-charge cycles without interruption. After those cycles the gauge IC locks onto the new cell's curve and the percentage readout stabilises.

Windows shows this battery as 65Wh but the Satellite A70 BIOS is reporting a different Wh rating — which one is right?

The BIOS reads the rated Wh value stored in the cell's EEPROM at the factory, while Windows calculates Wh from live voltage and current data during discharge. Small differences between the two figures are normal and don't affect function. The product data Wh figure — 65.12Wh — reflects the actual measured capacity of this cell. If the BIOS figure differs by more than 10Wh and the battery stops charging, run a full calibration cycle first before investigating further.
