New Li-ion cells often arrive at a partial state of charge, and the Move 5000's charge IC enters a top-off mode when it detects a cell already near full voltage. The indicator stays pinned at 99% while the IC trickle-charges the final milliamp-hours — this is normal behaviour, not a fault. Leave the terminal on charge until the indicator advances to 100% and the charging LED changes state. That confirms the charge IC has exited top-off mode and the battery is fully conditioned.

This is the most common failure mode on Move 5000 terminals with a degraded or poorly seated battery. Seat the replacement battery firmly so the connector is fully engaged, then charge to 100% before the first live transaction. If the reboot stops after a full charge cycle, the BMS was simply reacting to low cell voltage amplifying the printer spike.

My Move 5000 won't turn on at all after sitting in a drawer for a few months — is the battery dead?

Self-discharge during storage can pull a Li-ion cell below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V — at which point the protection circuit locks out to prevent damage and the terminal won't power on at all. Connect the terminal to its charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC will attempt a pre-charge recovery cycle to bring the cell voltage back above 3.0V, after which the BMS unlocks and normal charging resumes.
