Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

VeriFone CM5P / Carbon Mobile 5 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BPK278-502)
This is a 3.7V, 6800mAh Li-ion battery for the VeriFone CM5P and Carbon Mobile 5 mobile payment terminals. It fits both OEM part numbers BPK278-502 and BPK278-502-01-A. The cell capacity matches the original specification to keep the terminal running through a full business shift.
- CM5P and Carbon Mobile 5 fit: Both models share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the same cell works across the entire platform without any modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through a full boot sequence on the CM5P, including wireless pairing and receipt print events. The BMS accepted the charge state without any fault flags.
- First-deployment tip for POS terminals: After installing this battery, run at least one complete transaction cycle — card read, wireless auth, and print — before putting the terminal into live use. The CM5P maps battery capacity during normal operation and needs that cycle to display charge level correctly.
Terminal not completing PCI boot sequence after battery swap
The CM5P runs a PCI-mandated power-on self-test that checks for a stable voltage rail before releasing the OS. A freshly installed cell may sit at a surface charge that the BMS hasn't yet validated, causing the terminal to stall at the boot screen. This is a handshake timing issue, not a fault with the battery itself. Charge the battery to full via the terminal — not an external charger — and allow one complete boot-charge cycle to complete.
Battery indicator stuck at 99% after first charge
New lithium-ion cells arrive with a partial factory charge, which puts the CM5P's charge IC into top-off mode rather than a full charge cycle. The indicator holds at 99% because the controller hasn't recorded a complete charge event to anchor its capacity map. Let the terminal charge uninterrupted from below 20% to a full green status — this gives the charge IC the data it needs. After that first full cycle, the percentage will track accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions
My VeriFone CM5P reboots every time the receipt printer fires — is the new battery causing this?
The receipt printer motor draws a sharp current spike at the moment it engages, and a BMS set to factory-conservative overcurrent thresholds can trip and cut power before the spike clears. We saw this on the bench when the print motor drew peak current during the first few cycles on a cold cell. Run five to ten full transaction-and-print cycles to let the BMS learn the load profile. If the reboot persists after ten cycles, check that the battery connector is fully seated — a loose contact raises contact resistance and amplifies the voltage drop during the spike.
The CM5P was sitting in a drawer unused for several months and now won't power on at all — is the battery completely dead?
Lithium-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the CM5P sat long enough, the cell voltage may have dropped below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. Below that point, the BMS locks out discharge to prevent damage, and the terminal shows no response to the power button. Connect the terminal to its wall charger and leave it for 30 to 45 minutes without pressing anything — the charger applies a low-current trickle that brings the cell back above the recovery threshold. Once the charge LED shows any activity, the BMS has re-engaged and normal charging will resume.
The CM5P feels noticeably warm during a busy transaction period — is that normal with this battery?
Heat during heavy use is expected on the CM5P because the terminal is simultaneously running the display, the wireless radio, and the printer — all drawing from a single 3.7V cell. The battery itself generates some heat under that combined load, and the terminal's enclosure has limited airflow. As long as the terminal stays below uncomfortable-to-hold temperature and doesn't throttle or shut down, the heat level is within normal operating range. If the terminal does shut down from heat, reduce back-to-back transaction density and check that the charging contacts and connector are clean — dirty contacts increase resistance and add extra heat at the source.
