Ni-MH cells self-discharge over time, and the MagIC3's charge IC will not attempt to recover a cell it reads as below the safe recovery threshold. If the terminal shows no response at all — no boot screen, no charge indicator — the battery voltage has likely dropped below 3.0V. Place the terminal on charge for a minimum of four hours without interruption before attempting to power it on. If the charge indicator still shows nothing after that window, the original cell has failed and this replacement will restore normal operation.

My MagIC3 feels noticeably warm after a busy period of transactions — is that a battery problem?

Heat during heavy transaction periods is a combined load issue, not a fault. The MagIC3 draws from the battery through three paths simultaneously — display backlight, wireless, and the printer motor — and on a degraded cell that cannot supply consistent current, internal resistance rises and generates heat. A fresh 700mAh cell at full capacity handles that combined draw with significantly less resistance. If warmth persists after fitting the replacement, check that the terminal firmware is up to date, as older versions can hold the backlight and wireless radio active longer than necessary between transactions.
