HP iPAQ RZ1700 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (367194-001)

This is a 3.7V 1450mAh Li-ion battery for the HP iPAQ RZ1700, RZ1710, RZ1715, and RZ1717 pocket PC. All four models use the same battery bay and connector, confirmed against the 367194-001 and 365748-001 OEM part numbers. If your original battery no longer holds a charge or swells, this is the direct swap.

  • RZ1700 series compatibility: The RZ1710, RZ1715, and RZ1717 share the same 3.7V battery rail, physical footprint (50.41 × 36.01 × 7.27mm), and connector pinout as the base RZ1700. One battery fits all four variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the RZ1700 platform. The BMS handshook correctly with the device, charge acceptance was normal from zero, and no false low-battery warnings were triggered at operating voltage.
  • RAM preservation before swap: Sync all open data to your host PC before removing the battery. The iPAQ RZ1700 holds application state and unsaved data in volatile SRAM powered directly by the main cell — a full power removal without syncing first will erase that data permanently.

Why the iPAQ RZ1700 loses contacts and calendar entries after a battery swap

The RZ1700 runs Windows Mobile on a platform that stores active application data in battery-backed SRAM, not flash memory. When the main cell is removed and no backup power source is present, that RAM loses power and clears entirely. Contacts, calendar entries, and installed apps that were not written to ROM or synced to a PC vanish. To avoid this, perform an ActiveSync backup to a connected PC before pulling the battery — the restore takes under two minutes after the new cell is installed.

iPAQ RZ1700 stuck on boot screen after fitting a new battery

A new Li-ion cell sitting in a warehouse can drop to 3.0V or below before it reaches you. The RZ1700 boot sequence requires a minimum voltage to initialise the processor and load the OS — if the cell is too depleted, the device stalls on the boot screen or restarts in a loop. Connect the device to the AC adapter immediately after fitting the new battery and charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on. If it still stalls, hold the reset button with a stylus while keeping the charger connected to force a cold boot from a known-good state.

My iPAQ RZ1700 shows a full charge icon but dies quickly — is the new battery faulty?

A new Li-ion cell that sat in storage can have uneven cell voltage, which causes the fuel gauge IC to misread state of charge. The device reports full because the resting voltage looks normal, but usable capacity drops fast under load. Charge the battery to 100% uninterrupted on the AC adapter, then let the device discharge fully before charging again — one full calibration cycle typically corrects the gauge reading.

All my contacts disappeared after I swapped the battery on my RZ1700 — can I get them back?

The RZ1700 stores contacts and calendar data in volatile SRAM, which clears the moment main power is cut. If you had not synced to a PC before the swap, that data is gone from the device itself. If you used ActiveSync previously, open ActiveSync on the host PC, connect the device after the new battery is installed and the OS has loaded, and restore from the last backup — it will repopulate contacts, calendar, and tasks from that snapshot.

My RZ1700 wireless sync keeps dropping after fitting the new battery — it was fine before.

The 802.11b radio in the RZ1700 is voltage-sensitive and will throttle or drop connection if the battery is not at a sufficient charge level. A freshly installed cell that hasn't been fully charged yet will sag under the radio's draw, causing the sync to stall or disconnect mid-transfer. Charge the device to full on the AC adapter before running a wireless sync — if the problem persists at full charge, check that the battery contact pins in the bay are clean and making solid contact with the cell.
