Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Capillus 272 — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (INR18650-3S1P)
This 11.1V 2600mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original power pack in the Capillus 272 laser hair growth cap. It fits the 272-diode LLLT cap that delivers low-level laser therapy directly to the scalp. When the original cell degrades and the cap stops holding a charge through a full treatment session, this is the direct replacement.
- Capillus 272 cap compatibility: The 272 cap runs a fixed 11.1V rail to power all 272 laser diodes simultaneously. Any replacement must match that voltage precisely — a cell with a different nominal output will either fail the BMS handshake or under-drive the diode array, reducing therapy output without any obvious error signal.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the Capillus 272 charging circuit and confirmed the BMS correctly balanced all three cells, triggered protection at appropriate low-voltage cutoff, and accepted a full charge without fault codes.
- Port condition before charging: If the cap has been worn during scalp treatments where topical products are applied, clean the charging port with a dry cotton swab before connecting. Residue from minoxidil or other topical solutions can bridge the charging contacts and trigger a BMS protection fault that reads as a dead battery.
Battery fade from daily top-up charging on the Capillus 272
Most Capillus 272 users charge after every single session, which means the cells rarely complete a full discharge-to-charge cycle. Over time, this causes gauge drift — the BMS loses accurate track of true capacity and may report full charge when the actual usable capacity has dropped significantly. The 3S1P cell configuration is particularly sensitive to this because one slightly weaker cell in the series chain pulls the whole pack's cutoff earlier. Running the cap until it powers off, then doing a complete charge from flat, recalibrates the fuel gauge and often recovers reported capacity.
Cap powers on but laser output feels weaker partway through a session
This happens when the pack voltage sags under the combined load of all 272 diodes but hasn't yet hit the BMS low-voltage cutoff. The diodes stay on, but output drops as cell voltage falls below the stable operating threshold. It's a sign the cells have aged past their usable capacity, not a firmware or diode fault. Check resting pack voltage after a session — if it reads below 10.5V, the cells are no longer holding sufficient charge and the pack needs replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Capillus 272 cap stopped charging after I used a topical product during my session — is the battery dead?
Not necessarily. Minoxidil and similar topical solutions can bridge the charging contacts or seep into the port, triggering a BMS protection fault that cuts charging entirely. Dry the port thoroughly with a cotton swab, wait 30 minutes, then reconnect the charger. If the charging indicator comes back on, the fault has cleared — if not, check port voltage; a reading below 10.5V at rest confirms the cell itself has failed.
The Capillus 272 shows a full charge on the indicator but cuts out partway through my treatment session — what's happening?
This is gauge drift caused by repeated shallow charging cycles. The BMS loses track of true cell capacity when the pack is never fully discharged before recharging, so it reports full when actual usable capacity is much lower. Run the cap until it shuts itself off from low voltage, then charge it completely from flat without interruption. If the problem persists after one full recalibration cycle, the cells have degraded past recovery and the pack needs replacing.
The battery on my Capillus 272 gets noticeably warm during a session — is that normal or a sign something is wrong?
Mild warmth is normal — 272 diodes drawing simultaneously from a compact 3S1P pack generates heat, and that heat has limited airflow to escape inside the cap housing. It becomes a concern if the pack feels hot to the touch or if the cap shuts off mid-session rather than completing a full cycle. An overheating shutdown is the BMS triggering thermal protection, usually from a cell that's lost capacity and is working harder to sustain the load. Let the pack cool to room temperature for 20 minutes, then check resting voltage — above 11.1V at rest is healthy; below 10.8V after cooling points to a degraded cell.
