This 3.7V Li-ion cell replaces the BTR5600B in the T-Mobile SDA Music pocket PC and PDA. Capacity is 2200mAh (8.14Wh), matching the original specification. The SDA Music uses this battery for all functions — music playback, PDA applications, and wireless connectivity.

  • SDA Music platform fit: The SDA Music shares the BTR5600B footprint with select HTC-platform PDAs from the same generation. The connector pinout and BMS voltage thresholds are identical across these devices, so the cell seats and communicates correctly without hardware modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and full-load discharge on SDA Music hardware. The BMS held the 4.2V charge ceiling without deviation and tripped the low-voltage cutoff at the correct threshold, protecting the cell during deep draw.
  • RAM data protection before swap: Sync all open files and application state to your host computer before removing the battery. The SDA Music stores active PDA data in SRAM powered directly by the main cell — pulling the battery without syncing first will erase unsaved data and open application state permanently.

Why the SDA Music drops wireless sync mid-session after a battery swap

The SDA Music's radio draws a significant current spike when it initiates or re-establishes an ActiveSync connection. If the replacement cell hasn't been fully charged before use, its internal impedance causes a voltage sag under that draw. The device interprets the sag as a low-battery condition and throttles or drops the radio link. Charge the new battery to 4.2V before attempting any wireless sync session.

The SDA Music boot sequence pulls more current than standby, and a new cell shipped at storage charge — typically around 3.6–3.7V — can sit right at the BMS's minimum boot threshold. The device either stalls mid-boot or loops back to the splash screen without completing startup. Connect the device to a charger and let the battery reach at least 3.9V before attempting to power on. A full charge to 4.2V before first boot eliminates this entirely.

The cell isn't faulty — this is a data loss caused by how the SDA Music stores information. Active contacts, calendar entries, and application data live in SRAM, which is powered continuously by the main battery. When the cell is removed, even briefly, that RAM loses power and the data is gone. Always perform a full ActiveSync backup to your PC before pulling the old battery.

The SDA Music shows a full charge indicator but the battery drains noticeably faster than the original did during music playback — what's happening?

A new Li-ion cell can underperform for the first few charge cycles because the chemistry hasn't fully conditioned. The SDA Music's audio output and backlight run simultaneously during playback, which draws more current than standard PDA standby use. Run two or three full charge-and-use cycles before comparing capacity to the original. If drain is still unusually fast after three cycles, check whether the backlight timeout is set to a short interval — that setting alone has a measurable impact on draw.

My SDA Music won't pick up a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection reliably since I put in the new battery — what causes that?

The SDA Music's radio stack is voltage-sensitive at initialisation. A cell that hasn't been fully charged will sag under the radio's startup current draw, causing the device to fail the handshake or drop the connection shortly after it forms. Charge the battery fully to 4.2V, then toggle the radio off and back on to force a clean connection attempt. If the problem persists only during heavy use, the cell may still be in its first conditioning cycle — run one more full charge before drawing any conclusions.
