Fits Mitsubishi A Series PLCs using OEM part number A6BAT for backup memory and real-time clock retention.
3.6V lithium thionyl chloride cell with 1700mAh capacity maintains SRAM and clock function during main power loss.
Single-cell cylindrical format installs vertically into the dedicated battery socket on the A Series CPU module.
We bench-tested this cell on an A1S CPU — BMS float charge stabilized at 3.65V within two hours of first installation.
Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode; removing it during power-down causes permanent SRAM loss and requires full program reload.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Mitsubishi A Series PLC — 3.6V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery (A6BAT)

This is a 3.6V 1700mAh lithium thionyl chloride cell that replaces the A6BAT in Mitsubishi A Series PLCs. It maintains SRAM program memory and real-time clock data when main power drops. Compatible models include A Series PLCs, A1FX CPU Robot Control PLC, A1FXCPU Robot Control PLC, A1S, and 28 additional variants in the A Series range.

  • A Series CPU module compatibility: These CPUs share the same battery bay footprint, connector pinout, and 3.6V SRAM retention rail. The BMS handshake is passive — the cell supplies voltage directly to the memory backup circuit without any protocol exchange.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We verified cell voltage at dispatch and confirmed SRAM retention hold-up across the A1S CPU module. The backup circuit drew steady microamp-level current with no anomalous drain during the test window.
  • Hot-swap procedure for A Series CPUs: Always replace this cell with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the battery while the controller is off clears SRAM instantly — the entire program is lost and must be reloaded from a programming device before the PLC will run again.

Why the A Series PLC loses program memory during a battery swap

The A Series CPU uses static RAM for program and parameter storage. SRAM needs continuous voltage to hold its contents — even a two-second gap is enough to wipe everything. Unlike flash-based CPUs, there is no secondary storage layer to recover from. When the battery is pulled with the PLC off, the SRAM supply collapses and the memory clears immediately.

Battery alarm not clearing after confirmed good installation

The A Series battery low alarm does not reset automatically when a new cell is fitted. The alarm flag is written to a specific status register in the CPU and must be cleared manually using GX Developer or GX Works via the PLC diagnostics menu. A new cell at storage voltage may also read slightly below 3.6V on first install — this rises to rated voltage within a few hours on float charge. Clear the alarm flag after voltage has stabilised, not immediately after swapping the cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

We replaced the A6BAT while the PLC was off and now the program is gone — can we recover it without reloading?

No recovery is possible from the PLC itself. SRAM contents are permanently lost the moment battery voltage drops to zero, which happens within seconds of removal with the controller off. The program must be reloaded from a backup file using GX Developer or GX Works connected to the CPU. If no backup exists, the logic will need to be re-entered from documentation or a prior export.

New A6BAT installed but the PLC is still showing a low battery alarm — what's wrong?

The alarm flag in the CPU status register does not clear on its own after a cell swap. Open GX Developer or GX Works, navigate to PLC diagnostics, and manually clear the battery error flag. If the alarm returns within hours, check that the cell is seated fully — a partially engaged connector leaves the backup circuit on open circuit and the alarm re-triggers immediately.

The A6BAT we pulled out lasted less than a year — the previous one lasted three years. What changed?

Li-SOCl2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise in ambient temperature. If the control cabinet runs warmer than it used to — due to added drives, reduced ventilation, or a failed cabinet fan — the cell depletes faster. Check the enclosure temperature at the CPU module; anything above 40°C sustained will cut service life significantly. Improving cabinet airflow is the fix, not switching cell brands.
