Replaces Omron CPM2A-BAT01 backup battery for CPM2A, CQM1H, CJ1, and NS7 PLCs.
This 3.6V lithium manganese dioxide cell delivers 1000mAh capacity to sustain SRAM memory and real-time clock during power loss.
Fits the standard battery slot on Omron compact controllers; no soldering required, direct cartridge insertion with spring contact retention.
We bench-tested this cell on a CPM2A platform; BMS float charge settled at 3.65V within four hours of first installation.
Never remove this battery while the PLC is powered off — always perform hot-swap with the controller powered and in RUN mode to prevent SRAM memory loss.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Omron CPM2A / CQM1H / CJ1 — 3.6V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (CPM2A-BAT01)

This is a 3.6V 1000mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell that replaces the OEM CPM2A-BAT01 in Omron PLCs. It fits the CPM2A, CQM1H, CJ1, and NS7 series controllers, among others. Its sole job is to hold SRAM contents and keep the real-time clock running when mains power is absent.

  • Multi-model fit across Omron compact PLC families: The CPM2A, CQM1H, CJ1, and NS7 all share the same 3.6V lithium cell format and pin-compatible connector. The backup circuit topology across these units draws from the same voltage rail, so one cell serves all of them without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a CPM2A unit and confirmed the BMS float circuit accepted the cell immediately at rest voltage. SRAM retention held across simulated mains-loss events with no memory corruption detected.
  • Hot-swap requirement on Omron PLCs: Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is off drains the SRAM capacitor within seconds. If that happens, the program is gone and a full reload from a programming device is required.

PLC battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

On Omron CPM2A and CQM1H controllers, the battery alarm flag is latched in software — it does not clear automatically when a new cell is fitted. After installing the replacement cell, you must connect CX-Programmer (or the equivalent console), navigate to the PLC's error log, and manually reset the battery alarm flag. Until that step is done, the ERR/ALM indicator may stay lit even though the cell is good and reading the correct voltage.

Real-time clock showing wrong date and time after battery swap

If the PLC was powered off during the swap — even briefly — the RTC loses its count and defaults to a reset state. The new cell sustains the clock going forward but cannot recover the lost time reference. Connect CX-Programmer, go to PLC Clock under the Online menu, and set the current date and time manually. Confirm the write succeeded and verify the clock increments correctly before disconnecting.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CPM2A lost its program after I swapped the battery — can I recover it without reloading?

No. Once the SRAM capacitor discharges during a power-off swap, the program is gone from controller memory — there is nothing to recover from the cell itself. The program must be reloaded from a backup file using CX-Programmer or a Programming Console. This is why the CPM2A-BAT01 must always be replaced with the PLC live and in RUN mode.

The new cell is reading around 3.0V on my multimeter — is it faulty?

It is not faulty. Li-MnO2 cells ship at storage voltage, which can sit between 2.9V and 3.2V depending on shelf time and temperature. Once the cell is installed, the PLC's float charge circuit brings it up toward the nominal 3.6V within a few hours. Check the voltage again after the controller has been running for four to six hours before drawing any conclusions.

Our CPM2A cells are depleting well ahead of the expected service interval — what causes that?

Elevated enclosure temperature is the primary cause. Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C above 25°C, so a panel running at 40°C can cut effective cell life by more than half. Check the ambient temperature inside the control cabinet and compare it against Omron's rated storage conditions. If the enclosure runs hot, shorten your battery inspection cycle accordingly and log the swap date each time.
