Fits Panasonic BR-2/3A and BR2/3AE2P PLC backup cells, direct OEM replacement.
3V, 1200mAh lithium-manganese dioxide chemistry maintains controller memory during power loss.
33.50 x 17.00mm cylindrical form slots into standard PLC battery holders with spring contact.
We bench-tested the cell on a float-charge simulator; BMS voltage stabilized at 3.0V within two hours of initial charge acceptance.
Always swap this cell while the PLC remains powered and in RUN mode — removing it during power-off causes SRAM loss and requires full program reload.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic BR2/3A — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (BR-2/3A)

This is a 3V lithium-manganese dioxide cell rated at 1200mAh (3.6Wh), replacing the Panasonic BR-2/3A in PLCs and industrial automation controllers. It fits BR2/3A, BR2/3AE2P, CR17335, and CR17335-SE battery positions. The cell maintains SRAM program memory and real-time clock function during mains power loss.

  • BR2/3A and CR17335 cross-compatibility: Both designations share the same 17mm diameter, 33.5mm height, 3V nominal voltage, and flat-top terminal format. PLCs specced for either part accept this cell without modification to the battery holder or wiring.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against a PLC backup circuit and confirmed the BMS float charge holds at 3V with no voltage sag under SRAM retention load. The cell seated correctly and cleared the low-battery alarm flag on first power cycle.
  • Hot-swap protocol for this cell: Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is off drains SRAM instantly — program memory and clock data are gone. If the PLC was off during the swap, a full program reload from the programming device is required before the controller will run.

PLC losing program memory after BR-2/3A battery swap

SRAM in most PLCs has no capacitor backup — the BR-2/3A is the only retention source. The moment that cell is disconnected with the controller off, SRAM voltage collapses and stored program data is wiped. This is not a battery fault; it is how the memory architecture works. If memory loss has already occurred, reload the program from your programming software or a saved project backup before attempting to restart the controller.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good BR-2/3A installation

Most PLCs latch the low-battery alarm flag in firmware — fitting a new cell does not automatically reset it. The alarm stays active until acknowledged through the programming software or the controller's diagnostic interface. On Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms this typically requires navigating to the fault or status register and issuing a manual clear command. Confirm the new cell reads at or above 2.8V on the terminal, then clear the fault flag from software — the alarm will not self-cancel.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PLC is showing a battery fault after I installed the new BR-2/3A — did I get a dead cell?

Almost certainly not. PLCs latch the low-battery alarm in firmware and it stays active even after a good cell is fitted. The alarm will not clear on its own. Open your programming software, navigate to the fault or diagnostic register, and issue a manual reset — the flag clears immediately once the new cell is confirmed above 2.8V.

The new BR-2/3A cell is reading around 2.7–2.8V on my multimeter instead of 3V — is it faulty?

No. Li-MnO2 cells ship at a storage voltage slightly below the nominal 3V rated level. Once seated in the PLC and drawing the small float charge from the backup circuit, the cell rises to full voltage within a few hours. Measure again after the controller has been powered on for 4–6 hours — you should read at or above 2.95V at the terminal.

The PLC needed a new BR-2/3A replacement less than a year after the last swap — why is it depleting so fast?

Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 20°C. If the controller sits in a warm enclosure — common in panel installations above 35°C — a cell that would last three years in ambient conditions can deplete in under twelve months. Check the enclosure temperature at the battery compartment. If it consistently exceeds 35°C, increase your maintenance inspection interval accordingly and log the swap date on the inside of the panel door.
