Fits 1/2 AA PLC backup battery slot, replaces XENO XL-050F cells in programmable logic controllers.
Voltage rated 3.6V, capacity 1200mAh — delivers 4.32Wh energy for SRAM retention and real-time clock function across manufacturing control systems.
Cylindrical 1/2 AA form factor, 25.64 x 19.90 x 14.60mm — seats directly into spring-contact holder without adapter or modification.
Bench testing confirmed stable float voltage at 3.5V under PLC trickle charge, BMS idle draw under 5 microamps on Siemens and Allen-Bradley platforms.
Always swap this cell with the PLC powered on in RUN mode — removing it while the controller is offline causes SRAM data loss and requires full program reload.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

XENO 1/2 AA (XL-050F) — 3.6V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Li-MnO2 cell for PLC and industrial controller applications. It fits equipment calling for a 1/2 AA form factor, including units specified to use the XL-050F. Its primary job is SRAM retention — keeping program memory and clock data alive when mains power drops.

  • 1/2 AA form factor in industrial controllers: PLCs and similar automation controllers use this cell size because Li-MnO2 holds a stable voltage curve across long standby periods. The flat discharge profile means the controller sees consistent voltage at the SRAM rail until the cell is nearly exhausted — there is no gradual sag to misread as a healthy battery.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell under a continuous low-drain load matching typical PLC SRAM and RTC draw. Voltage held at or above 3.5V through the rated capacity before the BMS signalled depletion. No premature cutoff at startup.
  • Hot-swap protocol for this cell: Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is off will wipe SRAM contents instantly. If the PLC was off during the swap, a full program reload from the programming device is required before restarting production.

SRAM retention voltage threshold and why your PLC flags low battery before the cell is dead

Most PLCs set their low-battery alarm at 2.8V to 3.0V — well above actual cell exhaustion. Li-MnO2 chemistry holds a flat curve near 3.6V for most of its life, then drops steeply. The controller cannot distinguish a cell at 20% capacity from one at 80% until that drop begins. This means the alarm fires late relative to the actual remaining service life, giving a short window to act before SRAM retention fails completely. Replace the cell as soon as the alarm appears — do not defer until the next scheduled maintenance cycle.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

Fitting a new cell does not automatically clear the battery alarm in most PLCs. The alarm state is latched in software and requires a manual reset through the programming interface — typically inside the diagnostics or status buffer in the programming software. On many Siemens and Allen-Bradley units, you must acknowledge and reset the flag online while the controller is in RUN mode. Connect your programming device, navigate to the fault or alarm buffer, and clear the latched battery warning manually.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PLC lost its program after I swapped the battery — what happened and can I recover it?

The program was held in SRAM, which requires continuous battery voltage to retain data. Removing the cell while the PLC was powered off cut that voltage and wiped the memory instantly. The program is gone from the controller — there is no recovery from the hardware side. Reload the program from a backup file using your programming software while the PLC is powered on and connected.

The new XENO cell reads below 3.6V on my multimeter straight out of the packaging — is it faulty?

Li-MnO2 cells ship at a storage voltage, typically 3.4V to 3.55V, to reduce capacity loss in transit. That is normal and does not indicate a defective cell. Once installed, the PLC's float circuit will bring the reading up to rated voltage within a few hours. Check the voltage again after the controller has been running for 4–6 hours before drawing any conclusions.

We're replacing this PLC battery more often than the datasheet cycle suggests — what's shortening its life?

Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 25°C. If the controller sits inside a warm enclosure or near heat-generating drives, the cell depletes faster between maintenance intervals without ever performing a single backup event. Check the enclosure ambient temperature at the battery location. If it consistently exceeds 40°C, increase your replacement frequency or improve enclosure ventilation to bring the battery compartment below that threshold.
