I replaced the ER6V and now the PLC clock is showing the wrong date and time — what happened?
If the PLC was powered off during the swap, even briefly, the RTC lost its supply voltage and lost sync. The clock does not recover on its own — it resets to a default or epoch value. Connect a programming terminal, navigate to the time-of-day settings in the system data, and set the date and time manually. A hot-swap with the controller in RUN mode prevents this on future replacements.
The new ER6V cell is reading around 3.3–3.4V on my meter — is it undercharged or faulty?
Li-MnO2 cells ship in a controlled storage state and 3.3–3.4V is normal fresh off the shelf. Once seated in the PLC holder, the controller's float circuit brings the cell to its full open-circuit voltage — typically 3.6V — within a few hours. Measure again after the PLC has been running for four to six hours; a reading at or above 3.5V confirms the cell is good.
