Fits Panasonic BR-2/3AG PLC backup battery slots, direct replacement for BR17335 weld-leg cells in industrial controllers.
3V, 1450mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell holds program memory and real-time clock data during power loss across manufacturing control systems.
Weld leg connector solders directly into PLC battery holder; 34.34 x 16.65mm form factor seats flush in standard DIN rail enclosures.
Bench testing confirmed stable 3V output under float-charge conditions; BMS-less chemistry eliminates handshake delays on legacy controller platforms.
Always swap this cell with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode — removing it during shutdown causes SRAM loss and requires full program reload from the engineering terminal.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic BR-2/3AG with Weld Leg — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (BR-2/3AG, BR17335)

This is the Panasonic BR-2/3AG lithium manganese dioxide cell with weld leg, rated 3V and 1450mAh (4.35Wh). It fits PLCs and industrial controllers that use the BR-2/3AG or BR17335 form factor for SRAM memory retention and real-time clock backup. The weld leg connection is required for secure PCB mounting — do not substitute a standard coin or tabbed cell.

  • PLC backup cell compatibility: Controllers specifying BR-2/3AG or BR17335 share the same 3V retention rail, PCB footprint, and weld-leg mounting point. The Li-MnO2 chemistry holds a flat discharge curve across wide temperature ranges, which is why industrial controller manufacturers specify it over alkaline or standard lithium alternatives.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We confirmed stable open-circuit voltage, verified the weld leg geometry against PCB pad spacing, and checked BMS float behaviour under low-draw SRAM retention load. The cell accepted charge without event and held voltage within spec under continuous standby draw.
  • Hot-swap procedure — mandatory: Always replace this cell with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the battery while the controller is powered off will collapse SRAM voltage instantly, erasing stored program memory. If a cold swap occurred, a full program reload from the programming device is required before restarting the controller.

PLC losing program memory after battery swap

SRAM in most PLCs requires a continuous voltage above approximately 2.0–2.5V to retain data. The moment the old cell is disconnected with the controller powered off, that voltage drops to zero. There is no buffer capacitor large enough to cover a cell swap in most mid-range PLCs. The only recovery path is reconnecting the programming device and reloading the last saved project file to the controller.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

Most PLCs do not auto-clear a battery fault flag when a new cell is detected — the alarm is latched in firmware and requires a manual reset through the programming software. On Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms, this is typically a status bit or diagnostic flag cleared from within the project or via the controller properties menu. The new cell voltage is not the issue — the fault register simply was not reset. Open the programming software, navigate to controller diagnostics, and clear the battery fault bit directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PLC is showing a battery alarm even though I just installed this new cell — why won't it clear?

The alarm is a latched firmware flag, not a live voltage check. Most PLCs — including Allen-Bradley and Siemens S7 controllers — require a manual reset through the programming software after a battery swap. The new cell is fine. Open the controller diagnostics or status menu in your programming software and clear the battery fault bit directly.

The new cell is reading lower than 3V on my multimeter straight out of the packaging — is it faulty?

No. Li-MnO2 cells are shipped at a storage voltage slightly below their rated open-circuit voltage. Once installed on the PLC's float charge circuit, the cell will stabilise at full rated voltage within a few hours. Measure it again after the controller has been running for two to four hours and you will see the voltage settle at or above 3V.

This battery is depleting much faster than the last one did — what causes that between maintenance cycles?

Enclosure temperature is the primary factor. Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 25°C. If the PLC cabinet runs warm — common in summer or near heat-generating drives — a cell that should last several years can exhaust well before the next scheduled maintenance. Check the ambient temperature inside the enclosure and compare it against Panasonic's self-discharge curve; if it exceeds 40°C consistently, shorten your inspection interval accordingly.
