Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TSC Alpha 4L — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (A4L-52052002)
This 7.4V 5200mAh (38.48Wh) lithium-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the TSC Alpha 4L portable thermal printer. It fits the Alpha 4L used in retail, logistics, and field service label and receipt printing. Cell chemistry and BMS voltage thresholds match the original factory specification.
- Alpha 4L battery platform: The Alpha 4L draws sustained current through both the thermal print head and the paper feed motor simultaneously. This pack runs at 7.4V nominal with a BMS cutoff calibrated to that dual-load profile — swapping in a generic cell pack risks nuisance trips when both loads fire at once.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on the Alpha 4L bench unit. The BMS held stable across print head heat cycles, paper feed motor start surges, and Bluetooth radio bursts without triggering a protection cutoff.
- First-deploy print sequence: After installing, charge to 100% and run five consecutive label print jobs before putting the unit into service. The Alpha 4L's BMS uses those initial load cycles to establish the current draw baseline — skipping this step can cause the printer to report low battery prematurely on early shifts.
Why the Alpha 4L paper feed jams after a battery swap
The Alpha 4L feed motor relies on consistent voltage to maintain the torque required to pull label stock through the mechanism. When battery voltage sags below approximately 6.8V — either on a depleted old pack or a new pack that hasn't completed its initial charge — motor torque drops and the feed roller loses grip on thicker label media. The printer reports a jam, but the root cause is voltage, not a mechanical fault. Charge the new pack fully before the first print run and the jam condition clears without any mechanical intervention.
Faded or uneven print on a freshly installed battery
The thermal print head in the Alpha 4L regulates heat output based on the voltage it receives from the battery. A new cell pack that hasn't been conditioned through a full charge cycle can deliver slightly inconsistent voltage during the first few print jobs, causing the head temperature to vary mid-print. The result is banding — alternating light and dark lines across the label or receipt. This isn't a head fault. Charge the pack fully, print five test labels, and head temperature stabilises at the correct operating point, restoring clean output.

Frequently Asked Questions
My TSC Alpha 4L won't start printing after sitting unused for two months — is the battery the problem?
Most likely yes. Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the pack drops below the Alpha 4L's minimum motor-drive voltage (around 6.5V), the printer powers on but the print head and feed motor won't fire. Plug in the charger and leave it for a full charge cycle before testing — don't try to print mid-charge. If the pack recovers to 8.2V at full charge and the printer resumes normal output, the battery caused the fault.
The Alpha 4L keeps dropping its Bluetooth connection mid-job — could this be battery-related?
Yes. The Bluetooth radio in the Alpha 4L shares the same power rail as the print head and feed motor. When battery voltage sags during a simultaneous print-and-transmit cycle, the radio loses enough power to drop the connection. This happens most often when the battery is below 50% charge. Charge the pack above 80% before a heavy job run and monitor whether dropouts stop — if they do, the battery was the cause, not the radio hardware.
Why does the Alpha 4L report "low battery" almost immediately after I install this new pack?
The Alpha 4L's BMS reads state-of-charge based on load profiles it calibrates over the first few discharge cycles. A freshly installed pack with no cycles logged yet can report inaccurate charge levels until the BMS establishes a baseline. Run a full charge to 8.2V, then complete five full print jobs without interrupting the discharge. After those initial cycles, the reported charge level will accurately reflect actual cell capacity.
