Fits AL-KO Trimmer GTLi 18V Comfort and Rasentrimmer GTLi models with 18V battery slot.
18V Li-ion cell delivers 1500mAh capacity — 27Wh total energy for sustained edge trimming and grass cutting without mid-job battery swap.
Connector slides straight into the trimmer's battery housing with positive terminal forward; locking tab seats with a firm click to ensure contact under vibration.
We ran full-discharge cycles on a GTLi head load — the BMS stayed active through the entire motor runtime and showed clean voltage rail without sag spikes.
On first use, run the trimmer at half throttle for two full cycles before full-trigger operation — allows the BMS to profile the motor inrush surge and lock overcurrent protection thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AL-KO Trimmer GTLi 18V Comfort — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is an 18V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 1500mAh (27Wh). It fits the AL-KO Trimmer GTLi 18V Comfort and the Rasentrimmer GTLi cordless string trimmer range. Same voltage, same connector footprint, same BMS handshake as the original pack.

  • GTLi 18V Comfort and Rasentrimmer GTLi fit: Both models run the same 18V platform and share a common battery dock connector with identical cell count and BMS communication protocol — one battery pack covers both without adaptation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through motor-start inrush cycles on the GTLi cutting head. The BMS handled the trigger-pull current spike without tripping overcurrent protection, and cell voltage recovered cleanly between bursts.
  • First-cycle load conditioning on the GTLi: On the first two uses, run the trimmer at a light cutting load — thin grass, short passes — before tackling thick or overgrown sections. This lets the BMS profile the motor's inrush draw and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before you push the head through dense material.

BMS overcurrent trip on trigger pull with the GTLi cutting head

When you squeeze the trigger on the GTLi, the brushed motor draws a short inrush spike before settling to running current. A new pack that hasn't profiled this spike yet may interpret it as a fault and cut output immediately. This is a BMS threshold issue, not a dead battery. Run two or three light-load cycles first, and the BMS recalibrates its overcurrent window to match the motor's actual start behaviour. After conditioning, the pack should hold through a full trigger pull without dropping out.

Charger not recognising the pack after it's been sitting unused

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack sits long enough, cell voltage drops below the threshold most chargers require to begin a charge cycle — typically around 2.5V per cell. The charger sees a voltage too low to safely accept and refuses to engage, often showing a blinking or absent indicator light. To recover the pack, some AL-KO chargers support a trickle or recovery mode — consult the charger manual for the recovery button or hold the charge button for five seconds to trigger low-voltage acceptance mode. If cell voltage has dropped below 2.0V per cell, recovery is unlikely.

Frequently Asked Questions

My AL-KO GTLi trimmer cuts out the instant I pull the trigger — why does it keep doing this?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip caused by the motor's inrush current spike at startup. The BMS on a new or recently stored pack hasn't yet profiled the GTLi motor's start draw, so it reads the spike as a fault and shuts output. Run the trimmer on light grass for two full cycles to let the BMS log the actual inrush pattern. After that, it should hold through a normal trigger pull without cutting out.

The trimmer starts fine but bogs down and loses power when I hit thick grass — is the battery faulty?

Not necessarily faulty — this is voltage sag under sustained load. When the GTLi head pushes through dense material, current draw spikes and internal cell resistance causes the voltage rail to drop, triggering the tool's low-voltage protection. Check the battery dock contacts on both the pack and the trimmer for corrosion or debris first — dirty contacts increase resistance and make sag worse. If contacts are clean and the pack is fully charged but still sags, measure open-circuit voltage: a healthy 18V Li-ion pack at full charge should read between 20V and 21.6V.

The GTLi battery lost most of its capacity after only a few months — what causes that?

Repeated shallow cycling is the most common cause of early capacity fade in 18V Li-ion packs. Topping up the battery after every short trim session instead of running it down to a meaningful depth trains the BMS to treat a partial state-of-charge as "full," progressively narrowing the usable capacity window. Let the pack discharge to around 20–30% before recharging rather than plugging in after every use. This keeps the BMS calibrated to the cell's actual full range and slows capacity fade.
