Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Worx WG151.5 / WG540 Series — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (WA3512)
This 18V 2000mAh Li-ion battery replaces the Worx WA3512 and compatible OEM part numbers across the WG151.5, WG251.5, WG540, WG151, and 139+ additional Worx 18V cordless tools. The pack slots into the same battery port and communicates with the same BMS interface as the original. Capacity is 2000mAh (36Wh) — matching the factory spec.
- WG151.5 and WG540 platform fit: These models share the same 18V battery rail, terminal layout, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack works across the full line — no adapter, no wiring difference between mower and multi-tool variants on this voltage platform.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated motor-start inrush events on a WG540-class tool and monitored the BMS overcurrent response. The protection circuit held within spec on each trigger pull without nuisance tripping under normal load.
- First two cycles on a mower deck: Run the mower at a reduced cutting height on the first two charges — shorter grass, lower motor load. This lets the BMS profile the blade motor's inrush signature before it sets its overcurrent cutoff thresholds for heavier cutting passes.
BMS cutoff on blade motor start inrush — why it trips on the first pull
Cordless mower motors draw a spike of current in the first 80–150ms of startup — often 3–5× the steady-state draw. A new pack's BMS has not yet profiled the specific motor's inrush signature, so its overcurrent threshold sits at a conservative default. If the deck engages into thick or damp grass on the first run, that spike can push past the threshold and trip the protection circuit before the motor reaches operating speed. Two light-load startup cycles recalibrate the BMS profile and eliminate most nuisance trips on subsequent heavy cuts.
Charger blinking red on a new or stored 18V pack
Worx 18V chargers reject packs where individual cell voltage has dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell during storage — the charger reads this as a fault rather than a dischargeable battery. This happens to packs that sat unused for several months. To recover the pack, some Worx chargers support a trickle wake-up mode: remove and reseat the pack three times in quick succession to prompt the charger to attempt a low-current pre-charge cycle. If the charger still blinks red after 10 minutes, check cell voltage at the pack terminals — a reading below 14V across all cells confirms deep discharge; at that point, replace the pack rather than force-charge it.

Frequently Asked Questions
My WG151.5 mower cuts out the instant I engage the blade — is the battery faulty?
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a faulty cell. The blade motor pulls a high inrush current spike on startup, and a new pack's protection circuit defaults to a conservative cutoff before it has profiled the motor load. Run the mower twice on short, dry grass to let the BMS log the inrush pattern. After two light-load cycles, the cutoff threshold adjusts and the deck should engage cleanly on heavier passes.
The mower runs for a while then starts bogging down even though the charge indicator shows full — what's happening?
That's voltage sag under sustained load, not a capacity problem. As the motor heats up during a long mowing session, internal resistance in the cells rises and the pack voltage drops under load even if resting voltage looks healthy. Check the battery terminal contacts on the tool for oxidation or debris — high contact resistance amplifies sag significantly. Clean the contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and check that resting voltage reads above 19V before the next run.
The mower worked fine all summer but now in cold weather it cuts out after a few passes — same battery, same grass.
Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which makes the pack behave like a lower-capacity unit and causes the BMS to trip earlier under motor load. Store the battery indoors overnight and install it in the mower just before use — a cell temperature above 15°C at the start of a session recovers most of the lost output. If the pack has also been shallow-cycled repeatedly over the season (topped up after short runs), run it down to the low-battery cutoff and then charge fully before the next cold-weather session to reset the BMS charge tracking.
