Fits Craftsman 315.11538 cordless drill-driver; replaces OEM battery 130279001.
12V 3300mAh Ni-MH pack delivers steady voltage under sustained drilling and fastening without voltage sag typical of aged cells.
Slide-on connector and locking tab match the original housing; terminal orientation is fixed — pack seats flush with no force required.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH cell on trigger-pull inrush cycles; the BMS accepted full motor-start current without nuisance cutoff.
On first use with the 315.11538, run the drill at half throttle for two cycles before full-torque fastening — allows the cell to stabilize discharge curve under the motor's peak inrush demand.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Craftsman 315.11538 — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (130279001)

This is a 12V Ni-MH battery rated at 3300mAh (39.6Wh), built to fit the Craftsman 315.11538 cordless drill/driver. It replaces OEM part number 130279001 directly. The pack slots into the same bay and connects to the same contacts as the original.

  • 315.11538 and 11538 platform fit: Both model references point to the same tool chassis and use the same 12V battery bay, contact layout, and charge management circuit — one pack covers both designations without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on the 315.11538 platform through repeated trigger pulls at full-torque load. The BMS held stable across motor-start inrush spikes and did not trip into protective cutoff under normal drilling sequences.
  • Ni-MH break-in on a drill platform: On first use, run the tool at half load for two cycles before pushing maximum torque. This lets the charge circuit profile the cell stack's internal resistance before locking in its top-off thresholds — skipping this step can leave the first few charges slightly short.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush with the 315.11538

When you pull the trigger hard on a stalled or high-resistance bit, current draw spikes sharply before the motor reaches speed. On Ni-MH packs, the BMS monitors this inrush window and will cut output if the spike exceeds its overcurrent threshold. A new or cold pack has higher internal resistance, which amplifies the voltage drop during that spike and pushes the BMS closer to its trip point. If the tool cuts out immediately on trigger pull, release the trigger, wait three seconds, and restart at reduced speed to let the BMS reset and allow the motor to spool up gradually.

Charger not recognising this pack after storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge over storage — a pack sitting unused for several months can drop below the voltage floor the charger uses to confirm a valid battery is present. The Craftsman 12V charger typically requires the pack to present above roughly 7–8V to begin a charge cycle; below that, it may blink an error or do nothing. To recover the pack, try a compatible Ni-MH charger with a manual or "recovery" mode that forces a low-current trickle until the pack rises above acceptance voltage. Once the pack reads above 10V, the standard charger should take over normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Craftsman 315.11538 cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on a tough bit — is the battery faulty?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a faulty cell. The motor-start inrush current on a stalled or high-resistance bit spikes hard, and a new or cold Ni-MH pack has enough internal resistance to amplify the voltage drop and trip the overcurrent threshold. Release the trigger, wait three seconds for the BMS to reset, then restart at reduced speed so the motor spools up before you apply full load. If it keeps tripping, check the battery contacts for corrosion — even 0.1Ω of added contact resistance worsens the voltage sag at that inrush moment.

The drill feels weak and bogs down mid-hole even though the battery shows a full charge — what's happening?

This is voltage sag under load, not a capacity problem. High contact resistance between the battery terminals and the tool's battery bay prevents the full current from reaching the motor, causing the voltage rail to drop and the motor to lose torque. Pull the pack, clean both the battery contacts and the tool bay contacts with a dry cloth or a pencil eraser, then reseat firmly. If the bog persists after cleaning, measure the pack voltage under load — it should stay above 10.5V during drilling; a drop below 9V under moderate load points to cell degradation.

The 315.11538 drill runs fine indoors but cuts out quickly when I use it outside in cold weather — normal?

Yes, and it's a Ni-MH chemistry behaviour. Below about 5°C, the internal resistance of Ni-MH cells rises sharply, which increases voltage sag under load and can push the BMS into a low-voltage cutoff faster than you'd see at room temperature. Store the battery indoors until you're ready to work and swap in a warm pack when one cuts out — the cold pack will recover most of its capacity once it warms back up above 10°C. Avoid leaving the pack in an unheated vehicle overnight before a cold-weather job.
