This is a 9.6V, 3000mAh Ni-MH battery for the Paslode BID-900, BD-90, and BD-72 cordless impact drivers and drill/drivers. It replaces OEM part numbers B-9620F2, B-967F1, and B-963F2. Capacity comes from the product data: 3000mAh (28.8Wh).
- BID-900, BD-90, and BD-72 compatibility: These three Paslode models share the same 9.6V battery platform, connector format, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack fits all three without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on a BID-900 unit. The BMS held stable through repeated trigger-pull inrush spikes and did not trip under normal fastening loads.
- Ni-MH conditioning on first use: Run the tool through two full discharge-and-charge cycles before using it at maximum torque settings. Ni-MH cells need cycling to reach rated capacity — skipping this leaves noticeable capacity on the table early in the pack's life.
BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush during fastening
Impact drivers draw a sharp current spike the instant the motor engages — this inrush can be several times the steady running current. On a new or recently stored Ni-MH pack, the BMS may not yet have a current profile for the motor load, so the overcurrent threshold triggers too early. The BID-900's motor is particularly prone to this on hard materials where the clutch engages immediately. Running two light-load cycles first lets the BMS calibrate its threshold to the motor's actual inrush signature.
Tool bogs under load mid-fastening cycle
If the driver feels strong on trigger pull but loses torque partway through a drive cycle, the cause is usually voltage sag — the cell voltage drops under sustained load and the tool's controller reduces output to stay above cutoff. On Ni-MH packs, this gets worse if the cells have been repeatedly shallow-cycled and never fully discharged. Check the rail contacts on both the battery and the tool for oxidation or debris; resistance at that junction amplifies sag. Clean the contacts with a dry cloth and run the pack to full discharge before recharging — target a resting voltage of 9.0–9.6V after a full charge cycle.

My BID-900 cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on hard timber — why does the new battery keep doing this?
That cutout is the BMS tripping on motor-start inrush current, not a faulty battery. The inrush spike on the BID-900 motor hits hardest when the clutch engages immediately against resistance, and a new or unconditioned Ni-MH pack has a conservative overcurrent threshold until it's been cycled. Run two full light-load cycles — driving screws into softwood or similar — before tackling hardwood or dense materials. After conditioning, the BMS threshold adjusts to the motor's actual inrush profile and the cutouts stop.
The charger light never moves past red when I put this pack on for the first time — is the charger broken?
The charger is almost certainly fine. Ni-MH packs that have sat in storage often drop below the voltage floor the charger needs to begin a normal charge cycle — the red light is the charger refusing to start rather than detecting a fault. Pull the pack off, leave it at room temperature for 30 minutes, then reconnect. If the light still stays red, most Paslode chargers will accept the pack if you briefly connect a fully charged battery in parallel to raise the cell voltage above the acceptance threshold before switching back to the charger alone.
The drill ran fine for a few weeks but now it feels sluggish even on a full charge — what's happening?
Shallow cycling is the most common cause — if the pack has been topped up after light use without ever fully discharging, Ni-MH cells develop a partial charge memory effect and stop delivering full capacity. The fix is a deliberate full discharge: run the tool continuously on a low-resistance task until the BID-900's low-battery indicator activates, then charge fully from flat. Do this two to three times in a row. After reconditioning, the resting voltage after a full charge should read 10.2–10.8V across the pack terminals.
