Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

LG PH550 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (EAC63238201)
This 7.4V, 3400mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the original EAC63238201 cell in the LG PH550 portable projector. It restores cordless operation so the projector runs away from a wall outlet — for presentations, travel, or outdoor use. Voltage and capacity match the original specification exactly.
- PH550 platform fit: The PH550 uses a single-cell lithium-ion pack at 7.4V nominal. The BMS in this unit communicates directly with the projector's power management board, so voltage tolerance and cell chemistry both need to match — this pack meets both requirements.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge and discharge cycles on the PH550 platform. The projector's BMS accepted the pack, cycled through charge states without fault codes, and lamp ignition held stable from full charge down through the low-battery warning threshold.
- Lamp draw management: Set the PH550 to eco brightness mode when running on battery. Full brightness pulls 30–40% more current from the pack than eco mode does. The difference in image quality is minimal in most indoor environments, but the current draw difference is significant.
Why the PH550 shuts off before the battery indicator reaches empty
The PH550's lamp requires a higher minimum supply voltage than the projector's low-battery cutoff threshold is calibrated for. As the cell discharges and internal resistance rises, voltage sags under lamp load — even when the gauge still shows charge remaining. The projector's power board detects the voltage drop and shuts the lamp down to protect the circuit. This is a design characteristic of the platform, not a fault with the battery.
PH550 shows "charging" but battery percentage never increases
This usually means the internal charger has lost communication with the pack's BMS, often because the cell voltage dropped below the charger's recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. The charger enters a trickle state, reports "charging," but never transitions to bulk charge. Remove the battery, leave it disconnected for 60 seconds, then reseat it firmly and reconnect the power adapter. If the percentage still does not move after 20 minutes, check that the adapter output is at the rated voltage before assuming the battery is at fault.

Frequently Asked Questions
My LG PH550 projector keeps cutting out mid-presentation even though the battery still shows charge — what's happening?
The PH550 lamp draws a sharp current spike to sustain ignition, and as the battery discharges, rising internal resistance causes voltage to sag under that load. The projector's power board reads the sag as an unsafe supply condition and shuts the lamp off — even when the battery gauge still reads partial charge. Switching to eco brightness mode before the battery drops below 30% reduces the current demand and helps the pack sustain voltage above the cutoff point. There is no fault to reset; managing brightness is the direct fix.
The PH550 lamp looks noticeably dimmer on battery than it does on mains power — is the battery underperforming?
It is not a battery fault. The PH550 firmware deliberately reduces lamp power output when running on battery to manage current draw and protect the pack from voltage sag. This behaviour is hard-coded into the projector's power management and applies to any battery, including the original LG cell. You can verify this by switching between mains and battery with the brightness setting held constant — the projector adjusts lamp current automatically. Setting eco mode manually before switching to battery brings the behaviour in line with what the projector would do anyway.
The PH550 battery charged fine for months, then suddenly stopped taking a full charge — what degrades first in these cells?
In lithium-ion packs used in portable projectors, the first measurable degradation is capacity fade at the top of the charge curve — the cell reaches terminal voltage earlier each cycle, so the charger stops sooner. This is accelerated when the projector is stored for long periods in a discharged state, which allows the cell to self-discharge below the BMS recovery threshold. If the pack now only charges to around 70–75% of its original runtime, the cell's usable capacity has degraded past the point where conditioning recovers it. Replace the pack and avoid storing the projector fully discharged — aim to store it at roughly 50% charge if it will sit unused for more than a few weeks.
