Marantz RC9001 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 3000mAh Li-ion battery replaces the internal rechargeable cell in the Marantz RC9001 infrared remote control. The RC9001 is used to operate Marantz AV receivers and amplifiers. When the original cell can no longer hold a charge, this battery restores full IR output to the remote.

  • RC9001 fit: The RC9001 uses a single internal Li-ion cell rather than standard AA or AAA alkalines. The replacement cell must match the 3.7V nominal voltage and the physical dimensions (66.70 × 20.45 × 18.50mm) to seat correctly in the housing and connect to the onboard charge circuit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge cycles and confirmed the protection circuit responds correctly to both low-voltage cutoff and overcharge conditions. IR output at the LED held consistent across the charge range where the RC9001 operates.
  • Connector orientation before closing the case: The RC9001's internal connector is short. Before snapping the rear cover back on, verify the lead isn't kinked against the PCB — a pinched lead can cause intermittent disconnects that look like a faulty battery but aren't.

Why the RC9001 stops responding even with a charged battery installed

The RC9001's IR LED requires a stable voltage above roughly 3.2V to trigger a full-strength pulse. If the internal cell has aged past its useful cycle count, the resting voltage may read 3.6V on a meter but sag below the LED threshold the moment a button is pressed. This is a load-drop failure, not a charge failure. A new cell at 3.7V nominal eliminates the sag and restores consistent IR output.

RC9001 remote needs to be held much closer to the receiver than before

Reduced operating range is one of the first signs a Li-ion cell is nearing end of life. As capacity fades, the cell delivers less current per pulse, which weakens the IR LED burst. The receiver's sensor still picks up the signal at close range but misses it at normal distances. Replacing the cell and charging it fully to 4.2V returns the IR output to spec.

Inconsistent button response after a battery swap usually points to a cell voltage that's still recovering, or a connector making partial contact. Charge the cell fully to 4.2V before drawing conclusions — partial charge causes voltage sag under the brief high-current demand of an IR pulse, which makes some button presses miss while others get through. If the issue persists at full charge, reseat the connector and confirm no lead is trapped under the PCB.
