Fits URC MX-5000 and TRC-1280 remotes; replaces OEM battery part numbers BT-NLP2400 and NC1110.
3.8V and 4200mAh lithium-ion cell restores full IR transmission strength to the MX-5000's LED output circuits.
Battery slides into the vertical slot behind the remote's rear panel with polarity marked — verify + facing outward before closing.
We bench-tested this cell in the MX-5000 platform; the BMS accepted the pack on first insertion and maintained stable voltage under sustained IR button cycles.
Install both cells together in dual-battery remotes — pairing a fresh 4200mAh pack with a worn cell forces the new battery to compensate, cutting its effective lifespan in half.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

URC MX-5000 / TRC-1280 — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BT-NLP2400)

This 3.8V, 4200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the URC MX-5000 and TRC-1280 programmable universal remotes. Both remotes share the same battery bay dimensions and BMS handshake, so one part fits both. OEM part numbers BT-NLP2400 and NC1110 both cross to this cell.

  • MX-5000 and TRC-1280 compatibility: These two remotes run off the same 3.8V single-cell platform with matching connector pinout and BMS communication protocol. The battery bay measures 76.27 × 37.15 × 12.50mm — fit is exact on both units.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the MX-5000. The BMS reported correct cell voltage, accepted a full charge without error flags, and IR output held steady across the full discharge curve.
  • Single-cell remote install tip: After swapping the battery, hold the remote within 30cm of any device and press several buttons to confirm IR output before reprogramming macros. A loose connector seating is far easier to catch now than after a full macro rebuild.

Why the MX-5000 stops responding mid-use even with a charged battery

An aged Li-ion cell in the MX-5000 can show 3.6V at rest but sag below 3.2V the moment the IR LED array fires. That voltage sag triggers the BMS undervoltage cutoff, and the remote goes unresponsive. The remote then recovers within seconds once the draw stops, which makes the fault look intermittent. Replacing the cell eliminates the sag because the new cell has lower internal resistance and holds voltage under load.

MX-5000 not responding at all after battery replacement

This remote uses a JST-style connector that can seat 90% of the way without making a full electrical connection. If the remote shows no response immediately after install, press the connector firmly until it clicks — do not rely on friction alone. If it still does not respond, check that the replacement cell reads at least 3.7V with a multimeter before suspecting the remote itself. A cell shipped in storage protection mode may need a short charge cycle to wake the BMS before the remote will power on.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MX-5000 worked fine yesterday but now it won't respond to any button press — I just put in a new battery. What's wrong?

The most likely cause is an unseated connector. The MX-5000 battery connector can feel inserted but still lack full contact — press it firmly until it clicks. If the remote still does not respond, measure the replacement cell with a multimeter; a reading below 3.5V means the cell shipped in deep-storage mode and needs a charge cycle before the BMS will activate. Put it on charge for 30 minutes, then retest.

My MX-5000 controls my TV fine from close up but stops working from across the room — battery is new.

This is an IR LED output threshold issue. If the replacement cell voltage is sitting below 3.6V under load, the IR LEDs don't receive enough current to project a signal across the room — they fire weakly at short range but fall off fast. Check the cell voltage under use; anything below 3.65V at rest after a full charge points to a faulty or underspec cell. Swap in a confirmed full-charge cell and retest from your normal seating distance.

The URC MX-5000 battery drains noticeably faster since I replaced it — original lasted much longer between charges.

Faster drain on a new cell almost always traces to a stuck or partially depressed button creating a parasitic draw. Remove the battery, inspect every button for physical binding or debris under the keycap, and confirm each one springs back fully. If all buttons release cleanly, check whether any macro or timer function is set to poll devices on a short interval — that keeps the IR emitter firing on a schedule. Resolve the stuck-button issue first; a free-moving keypad with this 4200mAh cell should hold charge through weeks of normal use.
