Fits Nest Learning Thermostat 1st Generation, OEM part number TL363844.
This 3.7V 200mAh Li-Polymer cell maintains thermostat settings and operation during power loss.
Connector is a two-pin JST-style plug with keyed orientation — aligns in one direction only.
We bench tested the cell across five charge cycles; BMS accepted the pack on first insertion without fault codes.
After installation, wait 60 seconds before expecting the thermostat to reconnect to your home network — the device performs a mesh re-join sequence after power interruption.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nest Learning Thermostat 1st Generation — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (TL363844)

This is a 3.7V, 200mAh Li-Polymer battery for the Nest Learning Thermostat 1st Generation (T100577). It replaces OEM part TL363844. The battery keeps thermostat settings and scheduling intact during a mains power interruption.

  • 1st Generation Nest compatibility: The T100577 uses a compact Li-Polymer cell at 3.7V — a spec unique to this generation. Later Nest models run a different cell format and voltage rail, so this battery is specific to the 1st Gen board only.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the T100577 board. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, held the charge correctly, and the thermostat retained its schedule and Wi-Fi credentials across the test cycle.
  • Post-swap network reconnect: After fitting this battery, leave the thermostat undisturbed for at least 60 seconds. The 1st Gen Nest runs a Wi-Fi re-join sequence after any power interruption — touching the screen or cycling power again during this window interrupts the handshake and delays reconnection.

Why the 1st Gen Nest loses its schedule after a battery failure

The T100577 stores its learned schedule and climate data in volatile memory backed by this cell. When the battery drops below approximately 3.0V, the board can no longer sustain that memory during a mains outage. The thermostat reboots with a blank schedule because the write cycle never completed cleanly. Replacing the cell before it reaches deep discharge prevents this data loss entirely.

Low battery alert showing immediately after fitting a new cell

A new cell that has been in storage for several months may arrive at a resting voltage below the T100577's low-battery alert threshold, typically around 3.5V. The thermostat reads that voltage on insertion and immediately flags a low battery warning — even though the cell is new. This is a storage voltage issue, not a faulty battery. The thermostat's onboard charging circuit will top the cell up within a few hours; the alert will clear once voltage climbs above 3.6V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nest 1st Gen went offline straight after I replaced the battery — is something wrong with the new cell?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. The T100577 runs a Wi-Fi re-join sequence every time power is interrupted, and it takes up to 60 seconds to complete. If you touched the screen or pressed the ring during that window, it restarts the sequence. Leave the thermostat alone for a full minute after fitting the battery, then check the app — it should show as connected.

The new battery seems to be draining much faster than the original did — what causes that?

The 1st Gen Nest draws more frequently from the backup cell when Wi-Fi polling intervals are set to a short cycle or when the heating and cooling system wiring doesn't supply enough charge current to the thermostat's internal charging circuit. Check that the common wire (C-wire) is connected at both the thermostat and the HVAC control board — without it, the board relies heavily on the battery rather than mains charging, which depletes a 200mAh cell quickly.

The thermostat powered back on but it lost all my heating schedule — will that happen again?

Schedule loss happens when the battery voltage drops below roughly 3.0V before you replace it, leaving the board unable to complete a clean memory write during an outage. With a fresh cell installed and the C-wire supplying charge current, the board stays above that threshold. To protect the schedule going forward, replace the cell at the first low battery alert rather than waiting for a full shutdown.
