Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

SOMMER base+ / pro+ / tiga / Aperto A550 L — 24V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (S10523-00002)

This is a 24V, 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for SOMMER garage door opener remote control systems. It fits the base+, pro+, tiga, and Aperto A550 L series wireless transmitters. When the original cell degrades, this replacement restores full wireless control without replacing the remote unit.

  • base+ / pro+ / tiga / Aperto A550 L compatibility: These models share the same 24V power rail, physical pack dimensions (107.40 × 49.50 × 19.40mm), and connector layout — all draw from a common internal platform, so one battery fits the full range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the bench, confirmed the BMS holds the 24V nominal rail, and verified cell balance across the Ni-MH stack before dispatch.
  • First charge after storage: Ni-MH cells lose charge during warehouse storage. Before pairing the remote, run a full charge cycle on the transmitter — a partial cell voltage at first power-on can cause the remote to fail its self-test and show no response at the receiver.

Why the SOMMER remote goes offline after a battery swap

SOMMER's smart remote transmitters run a handshake sequence with the receiver unit every time power is interrupted. After fitting a new battery, the transmitter needs up to 60 seconds to complete this re-join before it will respond to button presses. Pressing buttons during this window does nothing — it is not a pairing failure. Wait the full 60 seconds, then test the remote from within range of the garage receiver.

Low battery alert appears immediately after fitting a new cell

Ni-MH packs stored for extended periods self-discharge to a resting voltage below the receiver's low-battery alert threshold — even though the cell itself is not faulty. The SOMMER receiver reads this low resting voltage and triggers the alert before the pack has had a chance to recover. Fit the battery, place the remote on charge for a full cycle, and the alert will clear once the cell voltage climbs above the detection threshold. Do not assume the replacement pack is defective until after that first full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

The SOMMER remote still won't open the garage after the new battery is in — what's wrong?

After any power interruption, SOMMER transmitters run a re-join handshake with the receiver that takes up to 60 seconds. During that window, button presses are ignored — the remote is not yet ready. Wait the full 60 seconds after fitting the battery, then test from within 5 metres of the receiver before assuming a pairing fault.

My new S10523-00002 battery drains noticeably faster than the original — is the cell faulty?

In most cases the cell is fine — the cause is usually the receiver polling the transmitter at a high frequency, which keeps the transmitter radio active more often than normal. Check the polling or response-speed setting in the SOMMER app or receiver menu and reduce it one step. If drain continues at the same rate after that change, check whether another smart home device on the same network is triggering frequent wake events.

The SOMMER app lost the remote from the device list after the battery swap — how do I get it back?

A full power loss clears the transmitter's active session with the hub, and the app treats it as a removed device rather than a reconnect. This is different from the 60-second re-join delay — the hub has actually dropped the pairing record. Open the SOMMER app, go to device management, and run the add-device sequence to re-pair the remote; the existing automation rules will reattach to the re-paired device once the process completes.
