Fits Garmin Forerunner 920XT multisport GPS watch and replaces OEM battery 361-00078-00.
This 3.7V, 300mAh Li-Polymer cell restores full tracking and heart rate monitoring to aged smartwatch units.
Connector seats flush into the proprietary Garmin contact pad with no locking tab required.
We bench-tested this cell in the Forerunner 920XT platform; the fuel gauge IC registered capacity correctly on first charge with no cutoff faults.
After installing this cell, place the watch on its magnetic charger and charge to 100% before first use — the fuel gauge cannot calibrate without a full cycle from near-zero after a swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Forerunner 920XT — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (361-00078-00)

This 3.7V, 300mAh Li-Polymer cell is a direct replacement for the battery inside the Garmin Forerunner 920XT GPS multisport watch. It fits the 920XT specifically — not the 920, not the 910XT. The OEM part number is 361-00078-00, and the cell measures 35.90 × 26.45 × 4.00mm.

  • Forerunner 920XT fit: The 920XT uses a slim Li-Polymer pouch cell with a three-pin flex connector that carries both power and fuel gauge data. The BMS on this watch reads cell impedance on first charge — fit the wrong cell geometry and the connector won't seat flush, which causes intermittent contact during movement.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We fitted this cell to a 920XT unit and ran a full charge cycle. The fuel gauge IC registered the new cell correctly after one complete charge-to-discharge pass. BMS cutoff triggered cleanly at the low-voltage threshold without false shutdowns.
  • Post-swap charge requirement: After fitting this cell, place the watch on its magnetic charger immediately and charge to 100% before first use. The fuel gauge IC on the 920XT loses its reference point when the cell is disconnected — it cannot recalibrate until it sees a full charge cycle starting from near-zero.

Why the 920XT fuel gauge reads wrong after a cell swap

The Forerunner 920XT uses a coulomb-counting fuel gauge IC that tracks charge by measuring current in and out of the cell over time. When you remove the old battery, that accumulated reference data is gone. The IC restarts with no history, so it estimates state-of-charge from open-circuit voltage alone — which is unreliable on a fresh cell. One complete charge cycle from near-zero to 100% gives the IC enough data to rebuild its model and report percentage accurately.

Watch not pairing with phone after battery replacement

Removing the battery cuts power to the BLE module mid-session, which drops the encrypted pairing bond stored in volatile memory. The phone still shows the watch as paired, but the watch no longer holds a matching key — so connection attempts silently fail. The fix is to forget the device on your phone, then re-pair from scratch through the Garmin Connect app. Do not attempt to re-pair until the watch has completed its first full charge cycle post-swap.

Frequently Asked Questions

My 920XT shows 0% and won't turn on right after I put the new battery in — is the cell dead?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC loses its charge reference when the old battery is disconnected, and on restart it reads open-circuit voltage on a fresh cell as critically low. Place the watch on its magnetic charger immediately — do not try to power it on first. Charge it uninterrupted to 100% and the watch will boot normally with an accurate reading.

The new battery is draining in a single day — my old one lasted much longer even when it was worn out.

A new cell on a 920XT with continuous heart rate monitoring and GPS active will draw significantly more current than a degraded cell running shorter sessions. Check whether always-on display mode is enabled and whether the HR sensor is set to continuous rather than smart recording. After the first full charge cycle the fuel gauge IC recalibrates, and reported drain typically stabilises. If drain is still excessive after three full cycles, confirm GPS mode is not set to maximum accuracy for everyday wear.

The magnetic charger doesn't seem to be making contact after I reassembled the watch — the charging icon never appears.

This usually means the rear case shifted slightly during reassembly and the charge contacts are no longer flush with the charger's magnetic pins. Remove the watch from the charger, press the rear case firmly and evenly until you feel it seat, then reattach the charger. If the icon still does not appear, check that no adhesive residue is bridging the contact pads — clean them with a dry cotton swab before reconnecting.
