Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Novipro UL521 / LS521 Series — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (880BAT)
This is a 2.4V, 3500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Novipro UL521, UL522, LS521, and LS522 surveying and test instruments. It matches the OEM part numbers 880BAT and 3000BAT. Capacity figure comes from the product data — 8.4Wh total energy.
- UL521 / UL522 / LS521 / LS522 compatibility: These four models share the same 2.4V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping the pack across any of them requires no adapter or firmware change — the instrument reads the cell voltage directly.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the UL521's charge circuit and monitored the BMS response during sensor initialisation. The cell held voltage within tolerance through probe power-up spikes and sustained logging draws without triggering a cutoff event.
- First-cycle calibration on the UL521: After fitting the new pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument's menu before field deployment. The UL521 maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes the low-battery indicator to trip early on the first measurement session, even with a fully charged cell.
BMS lockout after the UL521 sat unused in a carry case for months
Ni-MH cells self-discharge over storage. If the pack sits long enough, cell voltage drops below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 1.0V per cell on a 2-cell 2.4V pack. At that point the BMS enters a protective sleep state and the instrument shows no charge activity or a blank screen when connected to the charger. The fix is a slow-rate recovery charge using a compatible Ni-MH charger set to trickle mode, not the fast-charge circuit. Once the cells recover above approximately 2.0V combined, the BMS re-initialises and normal charging resumes.
Readings resetting or drifting mid-session during continuous logging
Sustained sensor load draws more current than standby operation — on the UL521 this can pull the cell voltage down enough to cause a momentary dropout without fully shutting the instrument off. That dropout resets the active measurement register, which appears as a mid-session reading jump or data gap in the log. The cause is gradual capacity fade in an aged cell, not a firmware issue. Replace the pack and verify the cell rests above 2.3V after a full charge before heading into the field.

Frequently Asked Questions
My UL521 powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to the PC — why?
USB data transfer adds a combined draw on top of the active sensor load — the instrument is powering its transfer circuit and keeping the measurement module live at the same time. On a degraded or partially charged Ni-MH pack, that combined current pull drops cell voltage below the instrument's cutoff threshold. The instrument interprets the voltage sag as a dead battery and shuts down to protect the data store. Charge the pack fully, confirm resting voltage is above 2.3V, then retry the transfer.
The UL521 shows a full battery on the display, but the low-battery warning fires within the first few measurements — is the indicator broken?
The indicator is not broken — it is recalibrating to the new cell's voltage curve. The UL521 maps its battery state during the calibration routine, and if that routine was skipped after fitting the replacement pack, the threshold reference is still set to the old cell's degraded profile. Run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu with the new pack installed. After one complete cycle, the low-battery trigger will align to the correct voltage point for the 3500mAh cell.
The new pack won't charge at all after the instrument sat in storage all winter — the charger light never comes on.
Extended storage drains a Ni-MH pack below the BMS recovery voltage — on a 2-cell 2.4V pack that threshold is around 2.0V combined. Below that, the BMS locks out the fast-charge circuit entirely, so the charger sees no handshake and stays inactive. Use a Ni-MH charger with a trickle or recovery mode to slowly bring the cells back above 2.0V. Once the BMS re-initialises, the charger will engage normally and complete a full charge cycle.
