Fits RedBack Laser CXR880 and DGL3000 laser levels using 880BAT or 3000BAT battery slot.
2.4V and 3500mAh capacity delivers sustained power for extended site measurements without mid-task dropouts.
Cylindrical pack slides into vertical battery tube with flat connector pins aligned to rear contact plate.
Bench testing showed clean BMS handshake on first insertion; Ni-MH chemistry held voltage under sustained load cycles.
After installation, power on the laser and run a full calibration cycle through the menu before field deployment — skipping this causes premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

RedBack Laser CXR880 / DGL3000 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (880BAT / 3000BAT)

This is a 2.4V Ni-MH battery rated at 3500mAh (8.4Wh), replacing part numbers 880BAT and 3000BAT. It fits the RedBack Laser CXR880, DGL3000, DGL3000 laser level, and Unilevel rotary laser instruments. These are construction-grade rotary laser levels used for alignment and reference marking on site.

  • CXR880, DGL3000, and Unilevel compatibility: All four fit models share the same 2.4V two-cell Ni-MH pack format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between these instruments does not require adapters or firmware changes — the pack communicates state-of-charge the same way across the range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the CXR880's charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted charge termination correctly at full capacity. We also verified the pack delivers stable voltage across the sustained rotary motor and laser diode draw without triggering an undervoltage cutoff.
  • Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The CXR880 and DGL3000 map battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session, even with a fully charged pack.

BMS lockout after the instrument sat unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A pack stored in a case for several months can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 1.8V per cell, or 3.6V across the two-cell pack. When this happens, the instrument's charge circuit may not initiate a charge cycle because the BMS is in sleep mode and not presenting a valid voltage to the charger. To recover the pack, place it on the charger and hold it there for up to 30 minutes — most chargers will begin a low-current trickle once the BMS wakes above 2.0V per cell and resumes normal communication.

Instrument powers on but shuts off during USB data transfer to PC

USB data transfer activates a second current path — the USB interface controller draws additional load on top of the laser and display. On a partially discharged or degraded original pack, this combined draw can pull the terminal voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold, triggering a shutdown mid-transfer. This is not a firmware fault — it is a voltage floor issue. Charge the pack fully before beginning any data transfer session and confirm terminal voltage is at or above 2.4V before connecting the USB cable.

Frequently Asked Questions

The CXR880 shows a low-battery warning almost immediately after fitting the new pack — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the pack. The instrument maps battery state during its calibration cycle, and if you skipped that step after installation, it carries over the old cell profile and flags low battery against the wrong baseline. Run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu with the new pack fitted and a full charge on the cells. The warning clears once the instrument has re-mapped state-of-charge to the new pack's actual voltage curve.

Readings reset or the display blanks out mid-session even though the battery indicator looked fine at startup.

This is a voltage dropout under sustained sensor and motor load — not a capacity issue. The rotary motor, laser diode, and display draw simultaneously during active measurement, and if the pack's internal resistance has risen (common in aged Ni-MH cells), terminal voltage sags enough mid-session to trip the undervoltage cutoff even when the resting voltage read correctly at startup. The fix is to replace the pack and charge it fully before the session — check that resting voltage after charge reads at or above 2.4V before heading to site.

The charger won't start a charge cycle on the new pack after it sat in storage for a few weeks before I installed it.

Ni-MH packs self-discharge in storage, and if the pack voltage dropped below the BMS recovery threshold — around 3.6V across both cells — the charger won't see a valid pack to charge. Place the pack on the charger and leave it for up to 30 minutes without removing it. Most chargers begin a low-current trickle once the BMS wakes above 2.0V per cell, after which the normal charge cycle initiates automatically. If the charge indicator doesn't activate after 30 minutes, check the charger contacts are clean and making firm contact with the pack terminals.
