Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Trimble Geodimeter 5600 / Focus 10 — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (571204270)
This is a 12V 3800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Trimble Geodimeter 5600 and Focus 10 total stations. It slots into the battery compartment and powers the electronic distance measurement, angle sensing, and display systems. Capacity is 3800mAh (45.6Wh), matching the original specification.
- Geodimeter 5600 and Focus 10 fit: Both instruments share the same 12V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers both platforms without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the Geodimeter 5600 power-on sequence and sustained EDM operation. The BMS held stable output across repeated measurement bursts without triggering a protection cutoff.
- Pre-deployment calibration cycle: After fitting the new pack, run a full calibration sequence through the instrument menu before heading into the field. The Geodimeter maps battery state during that routine — skipping it causes premature low-battery warnings to appear during your first measurement session even when the pack is near full charge.
BMS cutoff when the EDM module powers up on the Geodimeter 5600
The EDM module draws a sharp current spike the moment it initialises for a distance shot. On a degraded or partially discharged original pack, that spike pushes instantaneous draw past the BMS protection threshold. The instrument cuts power mid-sequence to protect the cells, which looks identical to a dead battery. A fresh pack with solid internal resistance handles the spike without tripping — keep the pack above 11.5V before field use to stay clear of the cutoff margin.
Geodimeter reads incorrect battery percentage after installing a new pack
The instrument's voltage-threshold indicator was calibrated against the discharge curve of the old, degraded cells. A new pack sits higher on that same curve at every state of charge, so the displayed percentage reads low — sometimes showing 40% on a pack that is nearly full. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through normal operation and the indicator recalibrates to the new cell behaviour. After the second cycle, percentage readings stabilise and track accurately through the rest of the pack's service life.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Geodimeter 5600 powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a data transfer to the laptop — is that the battery?
Combined draw from the EDM standby, display backlight, and active USB serial port pulls more current than the instrument draws during a standard measurement. On a weakened pack that threshold trips the BMS. We saw the same cutoff on the bench when USB transfer ran alongside EDM standby — the new pack's lower internal resistance keeps voltage from sagging under the combined load. Check that your transfer cable is seated fully; a loose connection forces the port to retry and spikes draw further.
New pack won't take a charge after the instrument sat in a carry case for several months — charger light stays green immediately.
Extended storage can drop Ni-MH cells below the voltage level the charger uses to detect a valid pack — the charger reads it as already full and terminates immediately. Apply a slow trickle charge at 100–200mA directly to the pack for 20–30 minutes to bring cell voltage above the detection threshold, then return it to the standard charger. If the charger still terminates early after that, the BMS has entered a sleep state — a brief 12V pulse across the terminals for two seconds is enough to wake it before normal charging resumes.
Angle and distance readings reset or jump mid-session without any warning — battery or instrument fault?
Sustained sensor load during a long measurement session causes voltage to droop on a pack with degraded cells, and the Geodimeter's processor resets when supply voltage dips below its minimum threshold — it looks like an instrument fault but the cause is the battery. We reproduced this on the bench by running continuous EDM cycles on a low-capacity pack; the dropout happened at around 10.8V under load. Replace the pack and confirm resting voltage reads at least 13.0V after a full charge before the next session.
