The BM61 is a 3.8V, 6000mAh (22.8Wh) lithium-polymer replacement battery for the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 tablet. It fits the Mi Pad 2, GD4250, and A2015716 variants. This replaces a degraded original cell that can no longer hold adequate charge for everyday tablet use.

  • Mi Pad 2 variant compatibility: The GD4250 and A2015716 share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol as the standard Mi Pad 2 — one cell works across all three.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the BM61 through charge and discharge cycles on the Mi Pad 2. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the charge IC stepped through CC/CV phases correctly at both standard and fast-charge rates.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration after installation: After fitting this battery, run one full discharge to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the tablet. This gives the fuel gauge IC a clean reference point against the new cell and corrects the inaccurate percentage readings that appear immediately after a swap.

Mi Pad 2 shutting down between 15–25% remaining

This happens when the display backlight and Wi-Fi radio draw current simultaneously, pulling the cell voltage down faster than the fuel gauge expects. The system reads the voltage drop as a near-empty cell and triggers a protective shutdown before the gauge hits 0%. The fix is a full recalibration cycle — discharge to auto-shutoff, then charge to 100% uninterrupted. After one full cycle, the fuel gauge maps the new cell's voltage curve and the early shutdowns stop.

Fast charging unavailable after battery swap

The Mi Pad 2 charge IC re-negotiates fast-charge protocol on the first accepted charge cycle after a new cell is installed. If you plug in immediately after the swap and the tablet shows only standard charging, that is expected behaviour — not a fault. Complete one full charge cycle to 100% without interruption. On the next charge session, fast charging re-enables automatically once the IC confirms the cell is stable above 3.85V.

My Mi Pad 2 gets noticeably warm near the charging port during the first few charges after fitting the BM61 — is something wrong?

The charge IC runs a slightly higher current during the first few CC-phase cycles as it characterises the new cell's internal resistance. That produces more heat than you'd see on an aged original battery, which had higher resistance limiting current naturally. The warmth drops off after two or three full cycles once the IC settles into a steady charge profile. If the tablet feels hot to the touch rather than warm, check that the USB cable supports the correct current rating for your charger.

After installing the BM61, the Mi Pad 2 percentage drops faster from 100% than it did even with the degraded original — why?

This is fuel gauge drift, not a cell problem. The gauge is still using calibration data from the old battery and is misreading the new cell's discharge curve, making it report faster consumption than is actually happening. Discharge the tablet fully to automatic shutoff — do not force it off manually — then charge to 100% in one uninterrupted session. That single full cycle resets the reference and the percentage should track normally from there.
