This 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery is the internal backup cell for the Amano MJR-7000, MJR-7000EZ, MJR-8000, and MJR810 time clocks. It holds the real-time clock and battery-backed RAM active during power outages. Without a functioning cell, the clock loses time and attendance data the moment mains power drops.

  • MJR-7000 series compatibility: The MJR-7000, MJR-7000EZ, MJR-8000, and MJR810 share the same backup circuit board connector and voltage rail. All draw from the same 3.6V Ni-MH cell and use the same BMS handshake, so one cell covers the full lineup.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through simulated power-loss events on the MJR-7000 platform. The BMS accepted the charge cycle without fault codes, and the RTC held accurate time across repeated cutover tests.
  • Data export before swap: Export all employee attendance records and punch data before removing the old cell. The MJR-7000 series stores attendance logs and employee profiles in battery-backed RAM — full power removal wipes that memory instantly.

Why the MJR-7000 loses all employee data after a battery swap

The MJR-7000 keeps attendance records and employee enrollments in volatile RAM, not flash storage. That RAM needs continuous voltage from the backup cell to retain data. The moment you pull the old cell and the board loses power, every record in RAM is gone — the swap itself is the wipe event. Export data to a PC via Amano's software before touching the battery compartment.

Clock shows wrong time after every power outage

If the MJR-7000 consistently resets to a default time after any mains interruption, the backup cell is no longer holding a usable charge. A depleted Ni-MH cell may still show some voltage on a multimeter but collapse under the load of the RTC circuit within seconds. Replace the cell and allow it to charge on the clock for at least 24 hours before the next power test. Confirm the RTC is holding by pulling mains power briefly and checking that the displayed time survives the gap.

The MJR-7000 wiped all our employee punch records when I replaced the battery — is there any way to recover them?

Once mains power and the backup cell are both removed simultaneously, the RAM clears instantly and that data cannot be recovered from the clock itself. The only recovery path is a backup export made before the swap — Amano's time clock software lets you export attendance data to a PC. For the next swap, export first, then replace the cell. Never rely on the old cell to hold RAM during the changeover.

After fitting the new cell, the clock keeps resetting to the wrong date whenever the power flickers — what's causing that?

A freshly installed Ni-MH cell needs time to charge before it can sustain the RTC through a power loss. If the clock was fitted and tested the same day, the cell likely had insufficient charge to hold the circuit. Leave the clock powered on for at least 24 hours to build the cell's charge, then test by cutting mains briefly. If it still resets after a full charge cycle, check that the cell is seated firmly and the connector is fully engaged.

Our MJR-8000 is prompting us to re-enroll all employees after the battery replacement — is that normal?

Yes, and it means employee enrollment data was stored in battery-backed RAM, which cleared when the cell was removed. This is the same failure mode as lost punch records — volatile RAM cannot survive without continuous voltage. Going forward, use Amano's software to back up both attendance data and employee profiles before any battery work. Re-enrollment is required this time, but future swaps can preserve that data with a prior export.
