Fits Extech i5 and Flir i7 infrared cameras, replaces OEM part number 1950986 and T197410.
3.7V, 2200mAh lithium-ion cell delivers continuous power to thermal detector and display during field inspections without mid-task shutdowns.
Slides into the battery slot with flat connector orientation; locking tab seats flush against the camera body.
We bench-tested this pack under sustained thermal detector load — BMS accepted the charge curve on first insertion, no protection trips.
After power-on, allow 60 seconds for the thermal detector to stabilize before beginning temperature measurements; accuracy depends on detector warm-up.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Extech i5 Infrared Camera — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (1950986)

This is a 3.7V, 2200mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Extech i5 and Flir i7 infrared cameras. It fits directly into the camera body and restores full function to the thermal imaging system. Capacity matches the original at 2200mAh (8.14Wh).

  • Extech i5 and Flir i7 compatibility: Both cameras share the same 3.7V single-cell architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the same pack powers either unit without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on an i5 body under continuous detector and display load. The BMS held the output rail steady above 3.5V through discharge and tripped the protection circuit cleanly at the low-voltage threshold without causing a hard lock.
  • Detector stabilisation after swap: After fitting a fresh battery, power the camera on and wait a full 60 seconds before taking any measurements. The microbolometer detector needs that window to reach thermal equilibrium with the internal electronics — readings taken before stabilisation will drift and cannot be trusted.

Thermal accuracy affected at low battery on the Extech i5

The i5's microbolometer runs a continuous internal calibration loop that depends on a stable voltage supply. When the cell drops below roughly 3.5V under load, the calibration circuit starts seeing supply noise and the detector baseline shifts. Temperature readings can skew by several degrees before the low-battery icon even appears on screen. Swapping the battery — not just recharging — is the fix once this pattern starts repeating on an aged cell.

Camera warm to the touch during extended inspections

The i5 runs two significant heat sources simultaneously: the display backlight and the detector's own heating element, which keeps the microbolometer at a controlled operating temperature. That combined draw generates real internal heat, particularly during inspections longer than 30 minutes. The battery housing sits adjacent to both components, so warmth in that area is expected — it is not a fault. If the housing becomes hot rather than warm, check that the ventilation slots on the rear panel are not blocked by a case or pouch.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Extech i5 shuts off suddenly mid-inspection even though the battery showed more than half charge — what's happening?

The BMS is tripping on a combined current spike from the display and the microbolometer heating element, which together pull more current than either draws alone. That spike pushes the instantaneous load past the protection threshold even when resting voltage looks fine. A worn original cell has higher internal resistance, which makes the voltage sag under that combined draw sharp enough to trigger the cutoff. Replace the battery and confirm the housing contacts are clean — oxidised contacts add resistance and make the sag worse.

Image quality and temperature readings start drifting before the battery indicator shows low — is this a camera fault or a battery fault?

This is almost always a battery fault, not a camera fault. The i5's internal calibration circuit is voltage-sensitive; as the cell ages, it develops higher internal resistance and the output voltage sags under load even when the resting charge reads normal. That voltage sag introduces noise into the detector's reference circuit, which shifts the baseline temperature readings. Swap the battery and retest — if the drift disappears after a full 60-second warm-up, the old cell was the cause.

The replacement battery drains noticeably faster than the original did when the camera was new — is the 2200mAh capacity correct?

The 2200mAh rating is correct and matches the OEM specification. Faster-than-expected drain on the i5 is usually caused by continuous detector heating draw, which runs at all times the camera is powered regardless of whether you are actively capturing images. Brightness set to maximum on the display compounds this. Reduce display brightness to the midpoint setting — this cuts the display's share of the current draw without affecting detector performance or image accuracy.
