Fits Airbus THR850, THR880, and THR880i handheld transceivers as a direct cell replacement.
3.7V lithium-ion chemistry at 2000mAh capacity maintains full transmit power throughout a shift without voltage sag under sustained RF output.
Connector seats vertically into the radio battery slot with a single locking tab; no adapter required for THR850 series platforms.
We ran this pack through five charge cycles on standard dock chargers and confirmed the BMS accepted handshake without fault LED on first insertion.
If the charger dock blinks red on initial insertion, remove the battery, wipe both gold contact strips with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the THR850 platform needs clean contact cycling to accept new cell firmware before green LED appears.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Airbus THR850 / THR880 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 3.7V 2000mAh Li-ion battery for the Airbus THR850, THR880, and THR880i handheld transceivers. These radios are used in aviation, maritime, and emergency services where voice transmission cannot drop out. Voltage and capacity match the original pack specification exactly.

  • THR850 / THR880 / THR880i platform fit: All three models share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake voltage. A single cell format covers the entire series without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through transmit cycles on the THR880 platform and confirmed the BMS held correct voltage under PTT-triggered current spikes. No overcurrent trip occurred during sustained transmission bursts.
  • First insertion on the charger dock: If the dock LED shows a fault on first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The THR series charger requires a clean contact cycle to accept the BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the THR850 cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery

A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.8V — not at full charge. When the radio draws transmit current at that voltage, the BMS can interpret the load spike as an overcurrent event and cut the output. This is not a faulty pack. Fully charge the battery before the first transmission session. Once the cell is above 4.1V, the BMS handles PTT spikes without interruption.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after a full charge

The THR series uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator, not a fuel gauge chip. Each bar maps to a fixed voltage window. A new cell can sit slightly below the top threshold immediately after charge if the charger terminates early on the first cycle. Run one full discharge and recharge cycle. After that, the cell stabilises at its true resting voltage and the indicator reads correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

The THR880 goes silent mid-call but the battery bar still shows two bars — what's happening?

Two bars on the THR series maps to roughly 3.6–3.7V at rest, but transmit current can pull that down below the radio's minimum TX voltage for a fraction of a second. The BMS trips on that sag and cuts output before the indicator has time to update. This is voltage sag under RF load, not a dead battery. Charge the pack fully — above 4.1V — and the sag margin widens enough to hold through transmission.

Radio drops to noticeably weaker transmit power halfway through a shift, then recovers when I key off — is the pack failing?

This is thermal-related voltage sag, not pack failure. Under sustained RF output, cell temperature rises and internal resistance increases, which drops the voltage available to the TX stage. The radio's firmware detects low supply voltage and reduces TX power to stay within spec. Key off for 60–90 seconds to let the cell cool, then resume. If it happens repeatedly within the first few charge cycles, run two full charge-discharge cycles to let the cell reach its rated capacity.

Pack inserted correctly but the charger dock never advances past the blinking charge LED — it blinks all night and stops without going solid green.

A pack that has been in extended storage can drop below the dock's acceptance threshold — typically under 3.0V. The charger sees a cell it cannot safely fast-charge and either stalls or terminates early. Remove the pack and check resting voltage with a multimeter. If it reads below 3.0V, the BMS needs a recovery charge: reseat the pack, wait 10–15 minutes for the dock to trickle charge the cell above threshold, then remove and reseat once more to trigger a normal charge cycle.
