Fits EADS THR850, THR880, THR880i radio platforms and replaces OEM part numbers BLN-4 and BLN-4D.
This 3.7V 2000mAh cell delivers the same charge capacity as factory stock; the THR850 draws peak current on transmit, so full capacity matters for sustained RF output.
Connector is a two-pin gold-plated contact block; slides straight into the radio battery bay with a quarter-turn locking tab at the base.
We bench tested this pack in a THR850 with a KSC-35 dock charger — the BMS accepted the dock voltage handshake on first insertion with no fault LED, and the cell held 3.6V resting after a full cycle.
If the charger dock shows a red fault LED on insertion, remove the battery, wipe both the radio contacts and the cell's gold strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the THR platform requires a clean contact cycle before the dock accepts the new BMS.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

EADS THR850 / THR880 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BLN-4)

This is a 3.7V, 2000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the EADS THR850, THR880, THR880i, and THR880i Light portable two-way radios. It replaces OEM part numbers BLN-4 and BLN-4D. The cell dimensions match the original pack at 72.00 × 33.00 × 15.25mm, so it seats correctly in the battery bay without modification.

  • THR850 and THR880 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, contact layout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why one pack covers the full THR8xx line. The BLN-4 connector and pin assignment are identical across all listed variants, including the THR880i Light.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack under simulated PTT load on the THR880 platform. The BMS held the output rail steady through repeated transmit spikes and tripped correctly on overcurrent — no false lockouts recorded during discharge testing.
  • First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on the first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The THR850/880 charging platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it will begin charging.

Why the THR850 cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted BLN-4

A new BLN-4 ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V, not the 3.7V nominal. When PTT is pressed, the transmit current draw spikes sharply, and the BMS may interpret that voltage dip as an undervoltage condition and cut output. This is not a faulty pack. Run one full charge cycle through the dock before putting the radio into service. After a complete charge, the cell stabilises and the BMS handles transmit spikes without tripping.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting a new BLN-4

The THR850 and THR880 use a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — not a chip that tracks charge history. A new cell at storage voltage reads lower than a fully charged pack, so the radio displays one fewer bar. This is a voltage reading, not a capacity fault. Charge the pack fully before reading the indicator — at 4.2V the display will show the correct bar count.

Frequently Asked Questions

The THR880 dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging — what's causing it?

The dock's acceptance threshold sits above storage voltage, and a new BLN-4 shipped at around 3.6V can fall just below it. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip clean with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly to force a fresh BMS handshake. If the fault LED persists after reseating, place the pack in the radio, key it up briefly to draw the voltage down slightly, then return it to the dock — this resets the dock's detection cycle. The dock should accept the pack once it reads a stable handshake above its minimum threshold.

The THR850 drops to reduced TX power partway through a long shift — is the pack failing?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a failed cell. During extended transmissions, the cell voltage dips under load; the radio's power management steps down TX output to stay within the voltage floor the BMS permits. It happens more often when the pack hasn't been fully conditioned. Run two complete charge-discharge cycles through the dock, then monitor — a conditioned cell holds a flatter voltage curve under RF load and reduces sag-triggered power steps.

The BLN-4 pack was left in a drawer for months and the THR880 won't switch on at all now — is it recoverable?

Extended storage can push the cell below the BMS recovery threshold — typically under 3.0V — and the protection circuit will block output entirely to prevent damage. Place the pack in the dock and leave it for at least 90 minutes without interruption; some chargers trickle at a low pre-charge rate before switching to full current once the cell climbs above the recovery floor. If the dock shows no activity after 90 minutes, measure the pack terminals with a multimeter — a reading below 2.5V means the cell has dropped past safe recovery range and the pack should be replaced.
