Fits Dirt Devil EVO M678 and M678 models, replacing OEM part number GPHC152M07.
7.2V, 1500mAh Ni-MH cell delivers consistent motor voltage on carpet and hard floors without sag.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab — orient the terminals upward.
We bench-tested this cell in the M678 charging cradle; the BMS accepted the charge cycle without fault signals.
Do not leave the vacuum on the charging dock permanently — continuous trickle charge degrades Ni-MH capacity faster than charge-and-remove cycles.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dirt Devil EVO M678 — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (GPHC152M07)

This is a 7.2V, 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Dirt Devil EVO M678 cordless stick vacuum. It replaces OEM part GPHC152M07 and fits directly into the M678 battery compartment. Capacity is rated at 10.8Wh, matching the original specification.

  • EVO M678 compatibility: The M678 platform runs a 7.2V motor rail with a Ni-MH cell stack. The connector pinout and cell count on this replacement match what the vacuum's onboard charge circuit expects, so the charger handshake completes normally.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through the M678 vacuum under sustained suction load. The BMS held steady at operating voltage across multiple discharge cycles, and the charge circuit accepted the pack without fault codes or thermal shutoff.
  • Dock charging on the M678: Remove the vacuum from the charging dock once the battery reaches full charge. The M678 dock does not switch to a true maintenance mode — leaving it docked continuously feeds a low-level trickle that degrades Ni-MH cell capacity faster than regular charge-and-remove cycles.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low on the M678

This happens when the motor draws more current than the battery can sustain at rated voltage — often triggered by a partially blocked filter, not a weak battery. The cell voltage sags under load, the motor slows, and suction falls off even though the indicator still shows charge remaining. Clean or replace the filter first. If suction recovers immediately, the battery was not the issue. If sag continues with a clean filter, the cell stack is no longer holding voltage above 6.0V under load.

M678 motor cutting out briefly then restarting on its own

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a loose connection. When airflow is restricted — blocked filter, full dust cup, or a stuck floor nozzle — the motor works harder and pulls a current spike the BMS interprets as a fault. The pack shuts the output, cools for a few seconds, then resets. Clear the restriction before assuming the battery is faulty. If the cutout continues with an open airpath and a clean filter, check that the cell voltage under no-load reads at least 8.4V immediately after a full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Dirt Devil EVO M678 has noticeably shorter runtime than it used to — new battery, clean filter, still drains fast. What's causing it?

A partially blocked filter makes the motor draw well above its rated current, which shortens the discharge cycle even on a fresh pack. Remove and tap out the filter, then test again. If runtime improves, the filter was the load culprit, not the battery. If it stays short, confirm the charger is fully completing the charge cycle — the M678 dock indicator should show green before you unplug.

The replacement battery isn't charging on the M678 dock — the indicator light never changes from red to green. What do I check?

The M678 charger monitors cell voltage to confirm a valid Ni-MH pack before it begins a full charge cycle. If the replacement cell arrived deeply discharged, the charger may not see enough initial voltage to start. Seat the battery firmly, leave it on the dock for 30 minutes, then check whether the light shifts. If it still does not progress, measure the battery terminals — you need to see at least 5.0V resting before the dock will initiate a charge sequence.

I left my Dirt Devil EVO M678 on the dock for two weeks and now it barely holds charge at all. Is the battery ruined?

Continuous dock charging on Ni-MH cells causes trickle-charge heat buildup, which permanently reduces cell capacity over time. Two weeks on a non-switching dock is enough to cause measurable degradation. If the pack now drops below 6.0V after only light use, the cells have lost capacity and the battery needs replacing. Going forward, charge only when depleted and remove the vacuum from the dock once the indicator turns green.
