Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

iRobot Roomba i7 / e5 Series — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (ABL-D1)
This 14.4V 5200mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the ABL-D1 and related OEM cells in the iRobot Roomba i7, i7+, and e5 robotic vacuum range. It powers the drive motors, suction fan, and onboard navigation hardware. Fits the 7150 and over 45 additional Roomba variants that share the same battery bay and BMS protocol.
- i7, i7+, and e5 platform fit: These models share a common 14.4V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake sequence. The replacement cell communicates charge state and temperature data to the robot's onboard controller the same way the factory cell does.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on an i7 unit. The BMS correctly reported state-of-charge to the app, thermal cutoff engaged at expected thresholds, and the robot completed mapping runs without mid-cycle shutdowns.
- Dock charging behaviour on the i7 platform: The i7 returns to its dock automatically and will trickle-charge indefinitely if left there. Remove the robot from the dock once a full charge is confirmed — continuous dock contact accelerates capacity fade on this cell chemistry faster than active use cycles do.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
The Roomba i7's suction motor draws significantly more current when filters are partially blocked or brush rollers are tangled. Under that elevated load, cell voltage sags early — the robot interprets this as low battery and reduces motor speed before the indicator reaches the low-charge threshold. The battery itself is not the root cause in this situation. Clean the filter and clear the brush roller first, then retest to confirm whether the issue is load-related or a genuine capacity problem in the cell.
Motor cutting out mid-clean and recovering after a short pause
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When sustained suction restriction forces the motor to draw above the battery's rated continuous current, the BMS opens the discharge circuit to protect the cell. The robot pauses, the BMS resets after a few seconds, and the unit resumes. This cycle will repeat until the restriction is removed. Check the filter, bin, and inlet path — once airflow is clear, the motor draw drops back within range and the trips stop.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Roomba i7 suction gets noticeably weaker halfway through a clean even though the battery icon still shows plenty of charge — is this the battery?
Not necessarily. A partially clogged filter forces the suction motor to draw more current than rated, which causes voltage sag mid-run and reduced motor speed before the charge indicator drops. Clean the filter and empty the bin, then run a full clean cycle to see if suction holds. If it still drops with a clean filter and a new cell, check the brush roller for hair wrap restricting airflow.
My Roomba i7 was left on the charging dock for weeks — now the new battery barely holds charge after a few cycles. What happened?
Continuous dock contact keeps the cell in a low-level trickle charge state that accelerates lithium-ion capacity fade faster than normal cycling does. After a few weeks of this, the cell's usable capacity is already reduced. Going forward, remove the robot from the dock once the charge indicator shows full — the i7's app will show you charge status remotely so you don't need to guess. This single change will extend cell lifespan more than any other factor.
My replacement ABL-D1 battery won't charge — the dock light doesn't respond and the iRobot app shows no charge activity.
The i7 charger expects a BMS handshake before it begins charging; if the replacement cell's BMS doesn't complete that handshake, the dock stays inactive. First, seat the robot firmly on the dock and check the dock's power indicator. If the dock light is on but the robot shows nothing, remove the battery, reinsert it firmly, and try again — a loose contact breaks the BMS communication line. If it still won't respond, verify the dock output is 20V at the contacts before assuming the battery is at fault.
